Job Description

St. Agnes Parish and St. Rose of Lima Parish, Topsfield/Middleton is looking for a part-time Music Minister to join their team. This part-time music minister would work in collaboration at both parishes with the three existing Music Ministers, committing to 1-2 Masses each weekend, and assisting with weddings or funerals, Holy Days, Christmas and Holy Week/Easter Masses and special liturgical events that arise. The right candidate would be a solo singer and instrumentalist (piano and/or organ preferred, but possibly guitar).
Minimum requirements and skills:
Strong and articulate singing voice with soloist proficiency and an inviting voice for the congregation to sing along with, proficiency in piano or guitar, 3-5 years Catholic parish experience, knowledge of Catholic liturgy, undergraduate degree in music or music performance preferred but not required. Ability to climb stairs to the choir loft at St. Agnes Parish is essential.
The music minister (with assistance from the existing Music Ministers) selects liturgical music in connection with:

  • Appropriate weekend scripture readings
  • The current liturgical season
  • Events in the life of the community

Expectations:
Weekly/monthly music planning for scheduled Mass(es) in collaboration with other three music ministers who will provide resources, copies, etc.

  • Expected to promote a prayerful, friendly atmosphere (i.e., fostering good relationship with existing music ministers).
  • Music Minister and members of the Music staff will conduct themselves in a professional manner (arriving in a timely manner, dressing appropriately, etc.).
  • It is expected that the scriptures for the day and/or the liturgical season being celebrated will be the starting point for any music chosen.
  • Technical skills – knowledge and understanding and/or willingness to learn about sound systems, etc. Ability to use email and Google docs for online communication and collaboration
