Summary/Objective

The Monitor Technician is responsible for the monitoring of cardiac monitors to notify Nursing Units of abnormal variations.

  • Confirms name of the nurse caring for the telemetry patient is confirmed upon initial placement and updated every shift directly on the Centralized Telemetry Monitoring Unit (CTMU) monitor. Clinical proficiency in performing non-wound-related hyperbaric therapy

  • Observes cardiac monitors and listens for alarm to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm and reports important changes to the nursing staff immediately. Posts strips on patient records according to established guidelines. Conducts training and records management on fire safety in accordance with industry standards for hyperbaric therapy

  • Prints out and interprets cardiac strips on the following occasions: Patient admission, once a shift, and upon rhythm abnormalities. Places the strips on the Waveform/ECG Mounting Form and takes the forms to the respective unitsaccording to established guidelines.

  • Once an order is received to discontinue telemetry and the nurse or UAP disconnects the telemetry transmitter from the patient. The monitor tech cleans the telemetry transmitter and cardiac leads with recommended bactericidal solution and stores in the unit’s telemetry transmitter cabinet

  • Monitors telemetry equipment for optimum effectiveness with reporting of any problems with equipment to the Director.Once Telemetry outage is identified, activates the Service Disruption/ Emergency Operations Plan by dialing the hospital emergency number 5555 and reporting the outage location. The employee also calls and notifies the Nursing supervisor.

  • Performs clerical duties for the department, prepares requisitions for supplies and secures authorizing signature from the Director as required; as well as, Assists in keeping station and department clean and neat following cleaning schedule.

Required Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent

1-6 months of related experience.

Must be able to pass EKG exam
