Job Description

Summary: The Mold Maker IV will use their advanced skills to fabricate new Plastic Injection molds as well as modify and repair existing molds used in plastics manufacturing.
Essential Functions:

  • Disassemble and assemble molds safely, efficiently and without damage.
  • Produce new molds and repair existing molds.
  • Set-up, program and operate CNC mill, manual mill, radial arm drill press, lathe, EDM and surface grinder in a safe, efficient, and correct manner to produce high quality work.
  • Perform routine maintenance on shop equipment.
  • Troubleshoot molds, dies and fixtures to suggest improvements or determine root cause of a problem.
  • Repair Injection, Compression and Pultrusion molds as directed.
  • Provide support and training to mold makers with less experience to elevate their skills.
  • Determine efficient material removal techniques, including speeds, feeds, cut depths, tool paths and cutting tools.
  • Utilize support software such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the organization.
  • Execute each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.
  • Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
  • Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.
  • Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.
  • Follow all department quality standards/criteria. Raise concerns and issues to immediate manager.

  • Continue developing mold making technical skills/knowledge.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed, remain flexible and open to possible schedule changes in order to meet business needs

In this position you may required to:

  • Frequent standing.
  • Occasional sitting, walking, bending at the neck and/or waist, squatting, twisting at the neck and/or waist, repetitive use of hands for simple and power grasping, fine manipulation, pushing & pulling, reaching above and below shoulder level, lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.
  • Work around equipment and machinery.
  • Exposure to excessive noise.
  • Use of special visual or auditory protective equipment.

  • 10 or more years’ experience in mold making and mold repair.
  • Competent in math, basic algebra, and basic trigonometry.
  • Must communicate in English proficiently, to include reading, writing, speaking, and understanding.
  • Must have strong critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate facts and circumstances.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, e-files, and sketches.
  • Ability to work independently, in a self-directed manner with little supervision.
