In 1979, the Rhode Island Blood Center was established by the hospitals in Rhode Island as a private, not for profit agency to collect, test, and distribute blood products. Today, the Rhode Blood Center is a division of New York Blood Center and is among the nation's premium providers of blood products and services and an integral part of the Rhode Island community's health care system. Key Responsibilities:

Take and record accurate medical history, ensure donor eligibility, perform venipuncture on volunteer donors, remaining constantly aware of donor safety. Provide excellent customer service by striving to provide each donor with a positive and pleasant experience.

• Perform all aspects of whole blood collection as required.

• Demonstrate proficiency and competency in all aspects of medical history, venipuncture and handling donor reactions,

remaining constantly aware of donor/patient safety.

• Provide education to donors by demonstrating knowledge of collection process as well as functions of other departments in

order to recruit donors/participants such as platelet/RBC apheresis, National Bone Marrow Donor Program.

• Demonstrate proficiency in maintaining a two-bed set up.

Educational Requirements: Minimum of a HS diploma or equivalent.

Part time work schedules will include days, evenings, and weekends. Applicants must be able to work varied hours and scheduled weekends. Travel to different work locations throughout the state is required.
