Overview

The Metrology group is a technical support group that supports nearly 4000 instruments across 6 locations at the Morrisville, NC site. The group reports to the site Engineering and Site Services Director and the group Manager coordinates the daily activities of 8-10 Metrologists with ~25% of these

resources coming from contract firms. Support activities vary by instruments, but most instrumentation and equipment undergo a calibration and full PM every 6 months. Metrology’s primary customer is Analytical Labs (~75%), and GMP manufacturing.

Under limited supervision: conducts calibration, qualification and support of laboratory instrumentation such as HPLCs, GCs, UV spectrophotometers, and other related analytical and process equipment throughout Catalent. Prepares detailed and accurate documentation of testing performed, and works within the guidelines of Catalent SOPs and industry standards for compliance. Makes

judgment on results with supervisory review. Comply with divisional and site Environmental Health and Safety requirements.

The Research Triangle Park (RTP) facility is Catalent's Center of Excellence for Analytical Services and is also home to Catalent's Inhalation franchise including product development, clinical and commercial manufacturing for pMDI, DPI and Nasal Sprays.

The Role

  • Perform calibration, qualification and support of laboratory instrumentation in one or more core laboratory techniques, such as HPLC, GC, dissolution, or other analytical techniques.
  • Document all laboratory work to meet Catalent standards.
  • Follow all applicable SOP's, ICP's, recognize atypical data, and report it to their supervisor.
  • Compare results to specifications and performs peer reviews.
  • May write or revise ICPs and SOPs with a previously defined format.
  • Record Calibration Out of Tolerances in the applicable Quality Management System.

The Candidate

  • Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, or Master’s degree in Chemistry or related technical or scientific field with 2-4 years related experience
  • Must have a working knowledge of analytical metrology gained through hands on experience and can perform necessary tasks
  • Communicates effectively with other internal departments and external vendors
  • Must be able to make judgment based on familiarity of basic policies and guidelines and be able to assist others
  • Must be able to work effectively on any laboratory team
  • Proactive in problem solving and able to organize time for multiple tasks
  • May be recognized as a technical resource of defined scope for routine issues
