Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist
Job Requirements & Responsibilities
A Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for overseeing the Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialists, Direct Care Staff, as well as the day to day processes of the Short-Term Residential Treatment Program and the Therapeutic Day Program. This position involves assisting with and providing information to the Head of Service, the Therapist and the Psychiatrist with the completion of Plans of Care, Needs and Service Plans, Intake Assessments, treatment plans, transfer plans, and discharge plans.
1. Assist with completing intake interviews for youth referrals for the Short-Term Residential Treatment Program and the Mollie’s House Day Program. Assist in planning for the Therapeutic Day Program, including overseeing appointments with therapists, physicians, counselors, school professionals and other outside agencies are adhered to. Take part in the assessment and referral process for Commercially Sexually Exploited Youth by providing relevant information to the individual’s case0.
2. Supervising youth in the Short-Term Residential Treatment Program.
3. Provide trauma focused behavior interventions, crisis response and harm reducing care to youth struggling with trauma symptoms due to being a commercially sexually exploited child.
4. Prepare and submit written reports and documentation as scheduled by the head of service. Implementing the regulations and expectations of a treatment community.
5. Assist in planning, purchasing, budgeting, shopping, and meal preparation.
6. Ensure residential location maintains compliance pertaining to cleanliness, dispense medication per self-medication guidelines and training, oversee appointments with therapists, physicians, counselors, school professionals and other outside agencies are adhered to.
Education and Experience
1. Must have a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts or Sciences in a related field and Four or more years of full-time experience in the Mental Health field or Master’s Degree of Arts or Sciences in a related field and Two or more years of full-time experience in the Mental Health field. . Experience shall be verified as having been performed as a paid or volunteer staff person whose duties required direct supervision and care of the population served.
2. Obtain Department of Justice fingerprint criminal record clearance and Child Abuse Index Check clearance. Any person willfully making any false representation as being a Direct Support Staff is guilty of a misdemeanor.
3. Two years’ experience in a group home or short-term residential therapeutic program performing those duties specified in Section 87065.2(c). Prior to assuming the duties and responsibilities of the position, the individual shall complete a minimum of one hour of training as specified in Section 87065.1(a), in addition to the training required in Sections 87065.1(c) and (d).
4. Employees shall be at least 21 years of age. Have a valid California driver’s license and provide a safe driving record quarterly to the HR department. Have a current chest X-Ray or TB test and medical exam. Must have a current First Aid and CPR certification.
