Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Medication Access Specialist coordinates with providers and local pharmacies to assist in the technical aspects of the distribution of medication refills and related functions for improving patient care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Works as a patient liaison between the pharmacy and the clinic providers. Receives and processes all requests for medication refills by fax, phone, person to person and by electronic format.
Researches patient information to assist care providers with medication refills. Corresponds with insurance companies regarding prior authorizations for medications.
Communicates with relevant personnel regarding medication distribution, keeping all patient information confidential.
Answers incoming phone calls and responds to the needs of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate person for service in a professional manner.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
CPhT certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPTCB) preferred.
Ability to type 35+ WPM.
Skilled in researching and finding resolution to problems.
Ability to work with patients in a courteous and friendly manner.
Skilled in working with nurses and doctors to expeditiously process adequate responses.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn other required programs.
Knowledge of basic pharmacology.

- EXPERIENCE - 1 Year of Experience
- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
License Pract/Vocational Nurse (LVN), Pharmacy Technician (PHT): PHT License from Texas Board of Pharmacy
or
LVN License Required.
