Job Description

Position Summary:
The Medical Office Assistant demonstrates ChesPenn’s commitment to quality, compassionate health care for every patient by providing prompt and courteous assistance to individuals who enter the community health center or who contact us by phone. The MOA assists patients with registration, schedules patient appointments, and completes documentation required to initiate and complete each patient visit.


Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in customer service, health setting preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Strong patient service skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English, fluent Spanish a plus
  • Able to function independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Good computer skills
  • Able to file alphabetically and numerically
  • Ability to meet approved minimal physical and medical standards

Scope of responsibilities:


Customer Service:


  • Greets patients and visitors in a cordial, courteous and professional manner
  • Provides an outstanding patient experience, addresses patient concerns and complaints with skill and respect
  • Insures completion of all appropriate forms and assembly of charts for new patients
  • Verifies and updates information for returning patients
  • Answers incoming telephone calls courteously/retrieves messages and routes appropriately.
  • Schedules patient appointments

Clerical:


  • Generates encounter forms for attachment to patient charts.
  • Verifies patient eligibility for insurance and/or sliding scale fees.
  • Collects co-payments, when necessary.
  • Maintain appointment schedule for providers on computer.
  • Inputs patient data into the computer.
  • Maintains patient chart records
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of patient medical records
  • Performs billing functions such as posting of charges and forwards necessary information to Billing Manager at the end of the day.

General:


  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
  • Attends organizational meetings and training events
  • Completes other duties as requested by supervisor

Client contact:


Approximately 90-100% of time


Physical demands:


  • Frequent and prolonged sitting, standing or walking.

  • Travel may occasionally be required to organizational meetings and events and is reimbursed in accordance with ChesPenn Health Services reimbursement policy.

  • Moderate physical effort: carrying patient charts, forms, supplies, etc.

Work environment:


Primary work environment is a busy multi-cultural ambulatory care setting. There is minimal exposure to infectious disease and blood borne pathogens.
