Job Description
Overview:
As a medical office assistant, you are integral to the work flow of the medical office environment. You are one of the first faces a patient will see when they enter one of our offices, meaning your ability to be friendly and welcoming are key. You should feel comfortable communicating with a variety of different people, and be able to direct patient check in while assessing patient requests and alerts. In your role, you will provide basic medical office clerical support while performing duties that require problem solving and critical thinking skills. In this role, you will:
Answer incoming calls. Assess each caller's urgency and priority, and either provide information, take messages, or forward to the appropriate party.
Create new medical record numbers, complete simple registration and insurance verification.
Schedule and prioritize appointments, obtain referrals and/or authorizations prior to scheduling.
Receive appointment requests for hospital discharge and emergency department follow-up, obtain necessary authorizations and makes appointments. Contact patients with appointment information by phone and by mailing computer generated letters.
Process provider’s orders upon disposition, obtain necessary authorization, making appointment and inform patients of pre-testing instructions.
Receive referrals from other clinics, medical offices, hospitals, or outside facilities. Enter information as necessary into the computer and forwards it to the specialty or PCP clinic/medical office for approval. Qualifications:
Experience and Education Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) or Completion of a CMC Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
1 year of healthcare clerical/administrative support experience required
Preferences:
Experience as a Medical Office Assistant preferred
CMA - Certified Medical Assistant preferred
