The Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant provides direct front and/or back office patient care as directed by a Physician, LVN, RN, or other licensed health care provider. Medical Assistants/Certified Medical Assistants greet and escort patients to exam rooms, prepare patients for examinations, assist with procedures, collect specimens and assist with the overall delivery of patient care in their respective department. All levels report directly to the Nurse Manager or Nursing Supervisor but may be assigned a more immediate supervisor as determined by the Nurse Manager or Nursing Supervisor. The Certified Medical Assistant performs all the same essential duties as the Medical Assistant, but receives greater compensation for the earned certification.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program. No experience is required. Current BLS certification (American Heart Association). Non-Certified candidates must obtain within 30 days of hire. Proof of Phlebotomy Certification may be required. EKG certification preferred. State or Federal CMA certification preferred from one of the following agencies: 1) California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCBMA), 2) American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), 3) American Medical Technologists (AMT), 4) National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or in the State of California, Multiskilled Medical Certification Institute (MMCI), 5) National Healthcare Association (NHA)-also known as Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA), and 6) National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP). Must be proficiently skilled in the application and use of Windows, Excel, Outlook, clinical applications programs, and the Internet. Typing/word processing skill of 25 wpm, preferably 40 wpm with high degree of accuracy. Ability to multi-task in an efficient, thorough, and prioritized manner; to work quickly, accurately and independently; and, to anticipate needs and solve problems.
