Job SummaryProvides clinical services related to health services activities to include but not limited to supporting the provision of direct health care for students as well as supporting medical clearances for students' participation in any educational program. In addition, provides administrative support for the health room.
Essential ResponsibilitiesClinical Care
- Under the direction of the Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, triages the patient by screening and assessing the patient's condition, taking vital signs, collecting a brief medical history, and assists with treatment.
- Accurately documents all pertinent information, treatments and services provided.
- Assists with ordering of student meals, preparing meals as needed, and distributing meals to students.
- Maintains infection control and safety standards in the workplace.
- Assists with transporting students on and off campus for medical care when necessary.
Medical Forms Review
- Provides administrative medical records services that include the review of student medical forms to ensure each student is in compliance with Hawaii State laws and applicable KS policies/procedures/practices for medical clearance.
- Identifies and tracks those student medical records that lists serious medical conditions and/or allergies and follows up with parents/physicians for more detailed information, and as indicated elevates to a higher level clinical review.
- Enters and maintains clinical information in the student database. Communicates medical clearance related information to others internally and externally as necessary. Creates medical information/conditions/allergy/medication lists.
- Assists with processing of student off-activity passes and readmit forms. Maintains strict confidentiality of medical records.
Program Preparation
- Prepares Registered Nurse (RN) standing orders and staff first aid booklets.
- Prepares first aid kits and nursing supplies, conducts inventories, and resupplies.
- Plans and conducts medical orientation trainings.
Health Room Maintenance
- Performs inventory maintenance and financial disposition of medical equipment such as crutches.
- Restocks all clinical and other utilized supplies on a regular basis.
- As applicable, performs laundry service, which includes washing and folding, and operates the autoclave performing quality assurance procedures with every autoclave run. Maintains a clean and professional working environment.
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.
- High School Diploma/Equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of related work experience.
- Current and valid driver's license.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment. Ability to work independently.
- Strong written and oral presentation skills. Strong communication skills.
- Ability to understand complex processes and simplify and streamline processes.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
- Strong working knowledge of and experience in automating office processes using standard office desktop applications and comfort in various database applications or e-health records.
- Flexibility.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and/or skill in organizational competencies of accountability, change effectiveness, collaboration and teamwork, communication, Hawaiian cultural commitment, and innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited medical assistant program or equivalent work experience with strong medical knowledge background and strong administrative skills.
- Experience working with pediatrics.
- Experience working with educational programs or schools.
- Understanding and appreciation for the mission of KS.
- Experience working with families.
- Understanding and sensitivity to the Hawaiian culture and the traditions of Kamehameha Schools.
- Experience with quality control processes and systems.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
- Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions
- This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
- Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours.
