Job Description

The duties of the Medical Assistant include, but are not limited to, consistent demonstration of professional conduct and ethical practice in the clinical setting; Using and interpreting both verbal and non-verbal communication when working with patients and members of their families; Performing initial clinical assessments and assisting physicians/practitioners with any treatments or procedures; Patient instruction/education related to diagnosis, tests and medications; Maintenance and proficiency testing of clinical equipment; Displaying safety consciousness in the clinical setting with patients, self, staff and equipment; Establishing and enhancing good personal rapport with patients and patient family members; Complying with infection control principles and sterile procedures; Utilizing good body mechanics while handling equipment, performing daily job duties and working with patients; Entering concise, accurate and legible reports of patient care delivery in patient’s electronic medical record; Communicating effectively and in a timely fashion with coworkers and other clinic personnel that must share in the mutual care & assistance of patients; Assuming personal responsibility for maintaining licensure (as required) and current knowledge of patient care, procedures and treatments as applicable to our clinic and specific patient population. The Medical Assistant must be detail oriented and able to multi-task at all times.

BMH Physician Partners has multiple practices across Beaufort and Hampton Counties and all employees are expected to be available to cover in those practices as needed.


Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent and completion of a medical assistant program (CMA, RMA, NCMA, and CCMA) or 1 year of verified medical office experience as a medical assistant; LPN license, or EMT certified is a plus.

Experience:

  • Must have mature reasoning ability and strong attention to detail.
  • 2-3 years previous medical office experience preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • BLS certification required prior to first clinical shift (must be issued by the American Heart Association).
  • Completion of certification required within 1 year of hire, the following certifications are acceptable: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) (CMA); National HealthCareer Association (NHA) (CCMA); American Medical Technologists (AMT) (RMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)(NCMA); American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA); National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) (NRCMA)
