Works under the direct supervision and responsibility of the Division Office Manager. Assists staff, providers, residents and medical students with patient care, clerical, and organizational tasks using a team- based approach in providing patient care. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the care services. Conveys a positive image of USF Health.
Note: Must successfully demonstrate competencies within job position.
Position Requirements
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Certification/Registration as a CMA or RMA through one of the national certifying organizations required. BLS/AED certification is required and must be maintained; demonstrated competency within 90 days required.
Experience: Experience as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare facility preferred.
Business Skills: Knowledge of basic organizational tasks and patient care management skills with demonstrated specialty competencies. Ability to recognize and report urgent patient care issues to attending and fellows. Adept at electronic medical record and proficient in computer skills, including Windows and MS Office.
Other: Employees need to approach care as a team and help patients coordinate across all elements of the healthcare system.

Physical Demands
Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Duties
- Patient – Related Duties
- Answers main office incoming calls. Responding to and accurately routing calls from hospital clinicians, pharmacy, home health agencies, and patients.
- Act as a liaison between providers, patients, pharmacies, hospitals, other health care professionals and nonclinical staff to provide a team approach to patient care. (team meetings, daily huddles to review daily schedules and enhance patient care). Also works closely with hospital Infection Prevention team.
- Pages and communicates with attendings and fellows in a timely manner in response to calls regarding patient care within the hospital and affiliate facilities.
- Schedules times for attendings to consult with transplant patients at TGH transplant center.
- Assist attendings with processing such patient-related forms/paperwork as prior authorizations.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

Duties
- Organizational Tasks
- Provide general office support to clinical team at Tampa General Hospital. Includes making copies, scanning, faxing documents and assistance with various projects as needed.
- Collect daily mail and faxes and distribute to faculty (includes scanning/emailing or mailing to off campus faculty).
- Maintains office supplies and keeps an inventory of materials and supplies.
- Maintains Division contact lists.
- Maintains Box library for updated faculty materials (includes obtaining and filing current CVs, medical licenses, DEA licenses, etc.).
- Submits tickets and works with IT for any computer, printer, fax issues in the TGH or 17 Davis offices. Also, submits work orders for any office issues within TGH ID office or 17 Davis office (i.e. cleaning, clogged sink, lights out, etc.).
- Orders business cards as needed for faculty.
- Scheduling division faculty meetings, or other division activities.
- Assists Fellowship Coordinator with various projects as needed.
