The Health Coach is responsible for the assessment of patients, prior to the patient’s encounter with the healthcare provider. The health coach will provide support to the provider, clinical staff, and administrative staff for the duration of the patient visit. This individual is responsible for administrative and clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, assisting physicians with exams, and performing front-desk tasks. The Health Coach is an essential part of the healthcare team, as their responsibilities help keep the facilities they work in organized and operating efficiently. This position requires the completion of a formal Medical Assistant Training program and certification along with excellent customer service skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare exam rooms for clinical procedures and assist providers and clinical staff with patient care
- Greet patients, record patient demographic information into EMR system, check patient insurance eligibility and escort patients to examination room
- Assess patient’s overall health concerns, measure vitals and document all information into the patient’s chart for the provider’s review
- Assist providers during clinical exams
- Administer injections and draw fluid samples to send in for laboratory analysis to corresponding labs
- Provide instructions to patients as directed by Physician, Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
- Ensure all related reports, labs and documents are filed and available in patient’s charts
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required, and maintain tidiness
- Maintain all medication logs and medical supply records (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, etc.)
- Answer telephone calls, messages, faxes and voicemails; provide feedback to patient/physician/pharmacy inquires
- Scan appropriate documents into the patient’s chart such as photo ID, prescriptions, medical reports; ensure all related reports, labs and documents are filed and available in patient’s chart
- Provide compassionate patient support and care, attention, and assistance during office visits
- Perform other related duties as assigned
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred
- Bilingual Required (English/Spanish)
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous and friendly manner at all times
- Must be detail-oriented and highly organized
- Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Light to moderate lifting: up to 30 lbs. maximum. Must be able to stand, stoop and lift and walk without restrictions.
