What Your Job Will Be LikeWe seeking a dedicated R&D Mechanical Technologist for an exciting and unique opportunity to develop engineering solutions for the SafeGuards Transporter (SGT) and the next generation Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT).
The selected applicant will work on teams designing, analyzing, fabricating prototypes, testing and producing component and system level hardware for the existing SGT fleet and the MGT currently under development. Both SGT and MGT projects are high visibility, multi-year efforts which go from concept development to fielded product, system assessment and surveillance, engineering updates, to demilitarization and retirement.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Collaborate other technologists on designing and developing a variety of mechanical components or assemblies to meet defined requirements
- Participate in design peer reviews.
- Ensure that selected designs meet criteria for manufacturability
- Work closely with and provide guidance, based on inputs from the design team, to the Manufacturing Liaison to ensure that complex mechanical components are fabricated, on time and within budget
- Work independently or in collaboration with other technologists, using hand tools or machine tools, to ensure that fabricated components are assembled in the manner designed
- Ensure the fabrication of prototype designs in the most efficient manner, making independent decisions, with minimum guidance from engineering project leads
- Integrate assembled prototypes into electrical or electromechanical systems

Qualifications We Require- Associates degree in mechanical design technology or a closely related engineering field or equivalent experience
- Experience on mechanical engineering design, qualification, production, or modeling/simulation projects
- Active DOE Q-level security clearance
- Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- Experience with electrical cabling interconnecting electronic modules
- Proven experience designing for manufacturability
- Experience working with Manufacturing Liaison to get parts fabricated
- Knowledgeable about advanced welding processes and methodologies
- Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication process
- Proven experience in automotive engineering
- Experience in heavy equipment operations and maintenance
- Experience with additive manufacturing techniques and processes

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
