Entry Level Mechanical Estimator

ColonialWebb is seeking a recent graduate or soon to be graduate in mechanical engineering to join our team as a Mechanical Estimator. As Mechanical Estimator, you will support our Richmond team which focuses on mechanical systems in commercial buildings. Typical projects include hospitals, high-rises, government facilities, data centers, and universities.

What you will do:

Work with an experienced estimator to learn how to:

  • Prepare cost estimates for HVAC, sheet metal duct systems, plumbing and piping systems
  • Account for labor, material, equipment, subcontractors, and other direct costs within estimates
  • Review plans and specifications to determine the scope of work
  • Prepare and augment drawings
  • Take-off material and provide accurate quantity surveys. Adjust labor production factors based on the degree of difficulty
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accurate and competitive pricing
  • Prepare conceptual estimates to support budget proposals
  • Develop value engineering options that reduce costs and enhance the quality of work performed
  • Support sales team and other department personnel as needed

What we are looking for:

  • Recently obtained or pursuing a Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Be willing to work hard, learn a ton, collaborate with a team, and have fun
  • Possess analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex engineering problems
  • Ability to manage customer relationships, perceptions and expectations
  • Ability to deal diplomatically and work professionally with a variety of people (i.e., managers, owners, project managers, field leadership, vendors, and tradespeople)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Creative thinker and attentive to details
  • Tech savvy, proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Capable of maintaining a high energy level to handle our dynamic, fast-paced workload
  • Willing and able to work from our corporate office and job sites
