SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Terminal Area Manager, the Rail Logistics Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of rail traffic for the Cement Plants and Terminals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensures that all federal, state and company safety and environmental regulations are consistent and that employees are trained/understand and comply with these safety and environmental standards
- Enforce railway safety regulations and promote a training environment for employees
- Use various communication channels such as verbal and digital
- Communicate with both internal and external customers and vendors
- Work in railroad software systems in coordinating the movement of cars
- Use spreadsheets to communicate overview of rail cars
- Establishes standards and key performance indicators for the efficient coordination and movement of rail cars
- Compose and submit shipment reports
- Track cars at different facilities
- Monitoring of inventory at facilities
- Predicting of inventory at facilities using deliveries and consumption
- Verify bills for accuracy
- Use of spreadsheets for tracking and communicating
- Monitor freight rates on a unit basis and tonnage basis
- Make recommendations for improving efficiencies and lowering transportation costs
- Troubleshoot equipment performance and downtime issues and propose possible solutions when rail or car issues arise
- Coordinate and schedule maintenance of cars
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Related college degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years' experience in rail or truck logistics
- Work experience in dynamic and fast paced environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate positive working relationships with all levels of management and staff- Working knowledge of MS Office and other job-related computer applications. Ability to quickly learn any software needed to perform duties
- Ability to speak clearly in English and be understood in conversation and on telephones/radios.
- Ability to respond decisively to emergencies, keeping safety in the forefront
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in problem solving and make decisions
- Knowledge of all relevant safety regulations and strong commitment to safety
- Promote proper safety practices and accident prevention
- Strong written/verbal communication, analytical, and mechanical skills
- Excellent work ethic – high standard of performance and production.

- Ability to travel on occasion
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit for extended periods of time (up to eight hours), stand, stoop, and bend.- Manual dexterity to operate telephone, personal computer, fax and copy machines and other office equipment.
- Ability to drive automobile to various plant sites and work locations.
- Ability to wear PPE, including hard hat, steel toed boots, safety eye wear and hearing protection.
- Ability to walk up to 200 yards over rough, uneven, and/or wet and slippery terrain.
- Ability to climb on equipment to provide supervision as necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical work environment is office environment. However, must be able to work in outside conditions such as rail yard, cement terminal, warehouse, and cement plant environment.
