PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Public Relations Manager plays a central role in establishing and maintaining MGM Resorts’ presence among consumer media around the world and generating content to appeal to their audiences. Managers oversee project development and implementation, facilitate media interaction, proactively develop pitches and cultivate relationships with media. Areas of operation the Manager will be responsible for promoting include, but are not limited to, resort, food & beverage, entertainment and sports, nightlife and gaming. Managers own specific relationships at the property level to keep abreast of property initiatives and priorities. Manager will report to the Director of Communications and have oversight of coordinators and specialists and related personnel issues. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and MGM Resorts International policies, practices and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain media relationships (locally, regionally, nationally and internationally) to result in editorial coverage for properties. Proactively pitch property amenities to include writing of pitches, development of trend ideas, journalist interaction, facilitation of property visits and evaluation of incoming requests for merit, including making recommendations on participation and coordination of all details
- Execution of tactics within strategic public relations plans, media events and announcements related to property-specific initiatives and objectives.
- Supports and oversees on-site filming of television shows, feature films, news programs, photo shoots, media familiarization trips, executive interviews and radio remotes.
- Draft and distribute listings, pitches, press releases; media follow up outreach to garner coverage. Develop talking points and interview preparation with property and Center of Excellence (COE) representatives.
- Managers attend regularly scheduled property meetings with marketing, social media and operations teams to determine relevant content for media outreach and develop strategy for programming.
- Manage specialists and coordinators, overseeing workloads, setting priorities and responding to personnel issues.
- Collaborate with internal project teams and outside agencies to execute on PR strategies and projects.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree – preferably in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field
- 5-7 years minimum work experience required in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or a related field
PREFERRED:
- Experience working in PR with hospitality, travel and tourism brands preferred
- A proven track record of successful PR campaigns
- Aptitude in presentation and public speaking
- Understanding of new media applications and trends and how they play a role in Public Relations
- Knowledge of the Atlantic City market
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Candidate must be a strong writer with excellent communication and leadership skills
- Strong knowledge of local, regional and national media industry required
- Computer experience required including, but not limited to, MSWord, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and a variety of social media channels
- Strong organization skills a must.
- Detail-oriented, able to multi-task and handle high-stress situations.
- Willing to work long hours, including early mornings and weekends
- Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
- Ability to recruit, hire, onboard and train new PR team members
