Primary Duty: The ICF/ID Manager of Nursing is responsible the ICF/ID Manager for the overall management of Hope Haven’s ICF/ID medical department. The ICF/ID Manager of Nursing supervises the ICF/ID Assistant Manager of Nursing, Shift Nurses, and Certified Medication Aides (CMAs).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensuring on-going assessment of residents served to ensure that the resident’s total health needs are met.
  • Consult and collaborate with other medical professionals in support of resident health issues, ie: psychiatrists, therapists, specialists, etc.
  • Ensure accurate administration of medications to residents at prescribed times and ensure the medical department staff follow proper medication administration procedures.
  • Develop procedures which will provide for the proper and safe administration of medications to residents and ensure proper medications are available.
  • Ensure the medical departments’ compliance with all regulatory agencies, to include accurate and time documentation of medical supports and services.
  • Responsible for monthly schedule of nursing dept. staff, to ensure adequate coverage while supporting efficiency of department operations.
  • Maintain family/guardian contact in regard to medical issues of residents served.
  • Responsible to communicate/coordinate residents’ medical appointments with school personnel in an accurate, efficient and consistent manner.
  • Ensuring adequate medical staff coverage to properly support residents’ medical status, medical trips, potential hospital admissions, or other related health matters that might arise.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Storm Lake Community School District school nurses as necessary in order to meet individual needs and promote continuity of care.
  • Ensure medical departments’ support of residents’ medication programs in collaboration with the QIDP to promote and encourage each resident’s independence and individuality.
  • Ensure current medical/dental/ophthalmology examinations as required by regulatory agencies, and maintain timely/accurately documentation of same.
  • Schedule and assist in quarterly medication review and inspection of medication by the consulting pharmacist.
  • Maintain current, accurate and confidential contracts and background check records for contracted medical service providers.
  • Coordinate medical dept. on-call duties and carry out on-call duties when scheduled.
  • Serving as a member of the committees as assigned by the ICF/ID Manager, Human Rights, and Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Supervise administration of and maintain accurate records for staff TB testing.
  • Responsible for effective, efficient and accurate utilization of electronic documentation software to assess and support resident’s health needs.
  • Responsible for nursing department’s assessment of staff work-related injuries and communicate same with Human Resources Generalist.
  • Inform ICF/ID Manager of all relevant departmental issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain company standards of confidentiality.
  • Uphold and maintain the Code of Conduct.
  • Attend workshops/seminars/continuing education appropriate to the position, as approved by the ICF/ID Manager
  • Serving as a mandatory reporter as required by Iowa law to report any abuse suspicion and/or incidents involving children and young adults served by all company programs to Child Protective Services (CPS), a division of the Iowa Department of Human Services.
  • Comply with company policies and licensure/certification regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires physical mobility to walk, stoop, stand, sit, and climb steps.
  • Requires the physical strength to assist individuals in transferring as per Hope Haven policy.
  • Requires physical strength to restrain an individual as outlined in the SCM procedures.
  • Ability to drive
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and have one year nursing supervisory experience
  • Be currently certified as a registered Nurse and have two years nursing supervisory experience.
  • Good communication (verbal and written), organizational and leadership skills.
  • Computer literate or have basic knowledge computer skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Ability to complete RA courses and/or required orientation training and all other agency requirements.
  • Valid Class C driver’s license required, unless driving a vehicle with a capacity of 8 or more, then a Class “D” license will be required and be an insurable driver with our insurance company.
  • Ability to pass a health assessment at time of hire and ability to maintain up to date health assessment as requested per regulations.
  • Meet DOL standards for Light work with occasional Medium work.
  • Live within 30 minute driving distance of company preferred.
  • Complete training in Child/Dependent Adult Abuse Reporting within the first six months of employment and on a continuing basis as required by Iowa law and company’s policies and procedures.
  • Clearance from a criminal background check and abuse reporting check at time of hire.
  • Negative drug screening.
  • Reliable Transportation.
  • Provide proof of state minimum liability insurance coverage.
