The Role:

MRC Live & Alternative is looking for a Business and Legal Affairs Manager to support the development, production, and distribution of MRC’s Live & Alternative event programming and projects. The position is based in Beverly Hills, and reports to the Head of Business and Legal Affairs, of MRC’s Live & Alternative division.

What you’ll do:

  • Working within the Business and Legal Affairs team, you will structure, negotiate, and manage business deals for MRC’s Live & Alternative event programming and television projects
  • Draft, review, and comment on a wide variety of agreements, including above-the-line talent deals (including directors, producers, and on-screen talent), development deals, production deals, as well as marketing and event-related agreements
  • Provide day-to-day legal support on MRC Live & Alternative programming and projects
  • Prepare internal documents related to tracking and updating the status of various aspects of the business and legal affairs process
  • Work closely and collaboratively with other departments such as Creative, Production, Marketing and Finance
  • Ad hoc Business and Legal Affairs support as needed

Your experience and skills:

  • The successful candidate will have 2-4 years of business and legal affairs experience in the entertainment field
  • J.D. and membership in good standing with The State Bar of California required
  • Major studio, production, or entertainment law firm experience strongly preferred
  • The ability to effectively, efficiently, and professionally negotiate and interact with talent agents, managers, outside counsel, internal executives of all levels, and in-house legal and business affairs executives at other studios and distributors
  • Clear, concise communication skills
  • Strong analytical capabilities and judgment
  • Ability to work proactively, independently, and collaboratively under tight timeframes, in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong sense of urgency and the ability to juggle multiple, competing priorities.
  • Ability to pivot quickly and fluidly, think creatively as well as practically, and be solution-oriented.
