Job Description
Position Summary
Works under general supervision of the Administrator/Deputy Administrator to supervise and coordinate all aspects of the volunteer activities and other community intervention activities. To oversee and ensure implementation of volunteer activities and programs of inmates placed in the custody of Shelby County Division of Corrections.
Pay Grade: 53 Minimum Qualifications
100.00% - 1. Three (3) years of experience coordinating public events, volunteer coordination, developing correspondence/publications, and/or communications; and
2. Bachelor"s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, public administration, communication, and /or the liberal arts; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manages and oversees the approval and standards for volunteers and coordination/administration of volunteer services, community and citizen involvement.
2. Handling of all customers and complaints, with high impact resolutions with excellent customer service.
3. Administers the planning, recruitment, screening, and placement of volunteers and/or applicable agencies for the benefits and needs of the department.
4. Reviews and process all volunteers" applications, criminal records, identifications, notifications and maintains the volunteer schedule and data.
5. Performs supervisory responsibilities for assigned staff in accordance with policies and procedures regarding selections, training, evaluating employee performance, and addressing complaints and resolving them with high impact resolutions.
6. Ensures the purpose of the organization and its actions is clearly communicated.
7. Arranges and develops volunteer training, focusing on policies and procedures to perform their assigned tasks.
8. Communicates with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and well place.
9. Serves as the liaison between the facility, committees and community groups to ensure a positive relationship is maintained with representatives, civic, state, and local agencies.
10. Interacts and communicates with the general public, management in conjunction with staff to ensure the successful operation and professional presentation of all events and onsite presence of volunteers.
11. Coordinates special and annual events to include appreciations/recognition of volunteers.
12. Performs other related duties as required or directed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KSAs and Others - 1. Knowledge of modern management and supervisory practices and techniques.
2. Knowledge of and experience in volunteer and personnel management, which includes event planning.
3. Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
4. Ability to analyze and solve problems, exercising good judgment.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with public, co-workers and other departments.
6. Ability to work with volunteers and diverse personalities.
7. Ability to manage time effectively and meet all deadlines and complete tasks as assigned.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers, other County employees, service providers, outside organizations and the general public. Special Requirements
1. Must be able to function in a prison environment.
2. Must have a valid Tennessee driver"s license or secure one by date of employment.
3. Must pass NCIC background check.
4. Participate in annual in-service and other training programs as required.
