Provide entry-level support in the Campus Services departmental work areas (Maintenance, Maintenance, Custodial, Plant Engineering, Grounds, and Mail Room). Perform a variety of routine functions and rotate through these groups depending on workload, season, and training plan. Relieve existing skilled and experienced labor from performing tasks better suited to an entry level person.




ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Maintenance

Assist in active construction projects as assistant/helper (gather materials, assist, cleanup, etc.). Provide miscellaneous maintenance support including painting of college interior and exterior facilities. Pressure-wash hard surfaces including sidewalks and exterior building surfaces


Custodial

Provide miscellaneous custodial support including cleaning, window washing, moving office furniture, etc. Remove garbage and debris from parking lots and other campus areas. Empty internal and external garbage receptacles, dumpsters, and recycling containers.




Motor Pool

Retrieve and clean motor pool vehicles. Process required DEQ air quality testing. Perform vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles are safe and ready for use at all times.


Plant Engineering

Assist in active engineering projects as needed and provide miscellaneous engineering support including scheduled preventative maintenance.


Grounds

Assist in active seasonal grounds work including leaf removal, weeding, and watering.


Mail Room/Warehouse

Assist in warehouse delivery by moving boxes of supplies, receiving deliveries, and delivering materials and campus mail to other campus areas.

Other
May be required to respond to college emergencies and support campus services staff as a designated responder.
Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas.
Maintain cooperative working relationship with coworkers, students, instructors, and the public.
Perform other related duties as assigned.


AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTION:
Actively participate on various College committees, projects, and initiatives. Provide assistance to other college personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain knowledge and proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility.

MINIMUM/MANDATORY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: a High School diploma or equivalent. This is an entry level position; on-the-job training will be provided.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of basic math, measuring, and scheduling. Knowledge of basic mechanical, construction, maintenance, grounds, and/or custodial work.

SKILLS:
Skill in using hand tools, power tools and operating other equipment/machinery. Some basic mechanical, construction, maintenance, grounds, and/or custodial skills.

ABILITIES:
Ability to drive a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, staff, other agencies, and the general public; manage time effectively; read; transfer knowledge from one task to another; communicate effectively. Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES:
Valid driver's license is required.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Some construction training or experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 60 pounds on a daily basis. This position often requires moving materials weighing over 60 pounds, and rarely up to 90 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 70% of the daily work period while operating equipment such as custodial equipment, hand tools, power tools, driving a vehicle or forklift. The employee must be able to communicate with supervisors, peers, and college staff.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Custodial equipment, cleaning chemicals, broom, mop, paint and painting tools/equipment, pressure washer, leaf blower, small hand tools, and motor vehicles. Proper safety/protective clothing/gear including barricades, safety glasses, ear protection, and dust mask.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily conducted both inside and outside college campus facilities in general occupied spaces. Outside environments include parking lots and motor pool; inside environments include campus buildings and warehouses. Work activities include exposure to custodial and maintenance work conditions and related exposures including standard cleaning chemicals. Work activities also occasionally include limited roof and tunnel access for HVAC preventative maintenance and performed in restricted spaces such as boiler rooms and utility service tunnels.

None.

This position works under the general supervision of the Director of Campus Services.
