OVERALL JOB OBJECTIVE:
Under limited supervision, to perform a variety of semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair and construction tasks on athletic fields, park space and other recreation properties/facilities, and to perform related duties as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepares and maintains all athletic playing fields and property under minimal supervision from the supervisor. This includes the following:
- Grades and adds infield mix to all softball and baseball fields
- Waters and drags playing surfaces
- Mows, waters, re-sods, performs aeration, fertilization, topdressing, overseeding and repairs athletic fields turf areas
- Fabricates maintenance equipment and tools
- Grades and adds sand to all outdoor volleyball courts
- Layout of all athletic fields
- Cleans and maintains restroom facilities
- Maintains trees and shrubs throughout athletic facilities
- Performs weed control in turf, shrub areas, and general athletic facility areas using proper Integrated Pest Management techniques
2. Performs maintenance tasks to include the following:
- Installations and repair of irrigation lines, heads and controls
- Maintains, cleans and performs repairs on concession/restroom buildings
- Repairs and replaces fences, bleachers and general site furniture
- Performs snow removal, trash removal and other general maintenance tasks as required
- Maintains and cleans the Athletic Field maintenance building, shop compound area and equipment
3. Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery, equipment, and tools to ensure safe operation, including, but not limited to the following tools and equipment: mowers (riding and push), tractor, york rake, backhoe, front-end loader, welder, grinder, utility vehicles, sod cutter, hand tools, applicators, snow plow equipment, pick-up trucks, and power tools.
4. A requirement of this position includes working irregular hours and the possibility of working weekends, evenings and holidays.
5. Assists with the maintenance of non-city fields made available for city programs.
6. Supervises seasonal or temporary employees, including task assignment and work instruction.
7. Remains alert to the conditions and events occurring at the athletic fields and parks sites indicating misuse and anticipated or needed repairs.
8. Maintains records of materials and supplies, orders, purchases and work performed.
9. Plans work schedules to meet specified objectives.
10. Other:
- Performs related duties as required by management to meet the needs of the city.
- Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city property.
- Know and comply with all city and department policies; participate in professional trainings and development; and adhere to attendance and workplace attire policies.

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE:

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of three years documented on-the-job experience and training that demonstrates knowledge of turf maintenance; including cultural practices for high use sports turf, Integrated Pest Management techniques, and related horticulture, irrigation, and structure maintenance. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public in stressful situations. Ability to perform record keeping functions. Ability to work successfully in a team environment or independently with limited direction including the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with co-workers. Ability to perform a wide range of strenuous physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment. Ability to stand, bend and kneel frequently and/or for extended periods of time. Upper body strength to lift and carry items up to 60 pounds on a frequent basis. Ability to utilize any required safety equipment including but not limited to normal personal protective equipment and to follow OSHA regulations. Willingness and ability to work irregular hours, extended hours, weekends, holiday’s evenings and emergencies as required. Ability to obtain CPR/AED certification within 12 months. Ability to use personal computers and software such as work processing and email. Valid Colorado driver’s license. Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history and motor vehicle record.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS – In addition to the required minimum qualifications:
Degree, certificate or documented certification in turf management or related field. Experience working in public environments in sports field management. Experience with resource conservation and environmentally sustainable landscape maintenance practices. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B

Physical and Mental Effort: Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Sufficient vision of other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate tools and equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an outdoor setting. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.
Work Environment: Works in an outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions and subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.
Machines and equipment used include, but are not limited to the following: Riding and hand mowers, edgers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, grinders, drills, york rake, chainsaws, rototillers, tractors, front end loaders, backhoes, pick-up trucks, utility vehicles, trailers, snow plows, snow blowers, small power equipment, and hand tools.
