The Maintenance Mechanic (Welding) is located in Facilities Management Service at the Seattle Division of VA Puget Sound, Veteran Affairs Health Care System; under direct supervision of the Supervisor (Operations Unit), from whom he receives instructions and guidance on the more complex assignments; works independently within the framework of existing codes/manuals and VA regulations and follows Engineering Preventive Maintenance Program, Engineering work orders and oral assignments.



Responsibilities

Major duties include but are not limited to:

• Perform maintenance and repairs on laundry equipment such as folders, washer extractors, gas and steam dryers, maintains air pressure lines, gauges and controls, performs preventive maintenance including lubrication schedules.
• Repair all road and ground equipment, such as, lawn mowers, tractor, backhoe, loaders.
• Perform preventative maintenance, trouble shoots, tune ups, replace and repair all -worn and broken parts.
• Full knowledge and proficiency in handling other power and hand tools is necessary.
• The mechanic maintains an inventory of spare parts for. various items of equipment and initiates purchase orders for replacements and for shop materials.

Physical Requirements: The duties of the incumbent require considerable movement around the Medical Center. The work involves bending, lifting, working from ladders and scaffolds and crawling through subbasements and ceiling spaces. He must frequently lift equipment or materials weighing 100 pounds or more.
