Job Summary

This position is accountable for the timely installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex plant equipment and facilities that are instrumental in the efficient functioning of automated production lines and a manufacturing facility operating on a 24 hour/day, 7 days/week operation.

The incumbent is assigned jobs by the supervisor or a superintendent and is expected to complete most jobs, including those of a complex nature, with little supervision.

All assignments must be carried out under stringent safety and sanitation standards. Quality requirements are constantly monitored, necessitating equipment fabrication and machine operations within specific tolerances and operational specifications to ensure the delivery of food products on time and at the lowest cost by conforming exactly to the customer's requirements. Participation of employees in the implementation of improved concepts is encouraged in all production processes.

Skills required include an intermediate level in proficiency in welding, plumbing, electrical repair, instrumentation, running lathes and milling machines, fabricating and repairing pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Additionally, the incumbent must own and maintain a basic set of hand tools.

Must be willing to work day, and graveyard shift. Some weekend work is required.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Troubleshoot and perform repairs to equipment that has failed in a manner that minimizes downtime.
  • During process line downtime, perform corrective and preventative equipment maintenance per assigned schedule.
  • Fabricate, manufacture or assemble items as indicated on blueprints, sketches, or schematics of complex objects and circuitry as requested in work orders.
  • Rebuild or remodel highly complex pieces of machinery such as gearboxes, motors, etc.
  • Maintain an appropriate inventory of parts on hand to facilitate timely repair of equipment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the proper use of all repair equipment through an on-going training schedule.
  • May be assigned to perform specialized job functions eg: auto/forklift mechanic, construction electrician, instrumentation, refrigeration, machinist, electronic specialist etc. Although assigned to a specialized job, the incumbent will be expected to assist in areas outside of that specialty as the need arises. Understand safety regulations and procedures on all assignments.

Must maintain the highest standards of data management by creating consistent, reliable data which will ensure accuracy and in turn, maximize the use of data and confidence in decision making.

Proactively manage safety by ensuring compliance with all Federal and State regulations and internal Company policies. Regularly complete behavior-based safety observations. Ensure unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner.

All employees are responsible for immediately reporting any food safety, food quality or plant security issues to management for appropriate action.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
This position requires the incumbent to have advanced skills as an industrial mechanic or industrial electrician. A two-year certificate from a college or technical school is preferred.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write various types of documents including, but not limited to, instructions, training outlines, and reports. Ability to effectively present information verbally in one-on-one to large group situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Must be able to creatively apply experience and common sense to a variety of situations, processes, and people. Must be able to make technical decisions and support the staff on technical issues. Possess the ability to manage several projects concurrently. Be able to plan work, order parts, and coordinate downtime to complete work orders. Be able to resolve issues which may include conflicts between employees, equipment malfunctions, and variations in operating conditions.

Computer Skills:

Must demonstrate strong skills in Microsoft Office suite and be able to effectively use Maintenance Management Software.
