This classification covers those employees who perform journey level installation testing, repairing, and maintenance to plant electrical systems and equipment. (Understands state and local codes and ordinances and Underwriter specifications).
Primary Responsibilities
- Can perform all assigned duties of Maintenance Electrician AA.
- Advise Lead/Supervisor of problems and makes repairs as needed.
- Performs machinery and equipment examinations to troubleshoot for defects in operation; troubleshoots equipment containing a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) using ladder logic, other tools and analysis.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic power principles
- Prepare reports on improving operations.
- Proficient knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance.
- Proficient in Ohm’s Law (Electrical formulas and equations) and NEC (National Electric Code)
- Will be required to fill in for Lead Person as needed and demonstrate some leadership and interpersonal qualities.
- Be able to train lower level partners in all aspects of maintenance, safety and quality expectations.
- Understands and practices the concept of Customer Service as it relates to an internal customer.
- Plans functions to be performed from complex wiring and circuit diagrams, installation and construction blueprints. Performs all work within prescribed state and local codes and ordinances and Underwriter’s specifications.
- Determines routing, location, method of installing wires, conduit electrical systems, controls, and equipment. Uses construction, installation and manufacturers specifications and diagrams and established trade practices in the proper and correct installation.
- Performs such installation and maintenance operations as installing and maintaining primary and branch feeder circuits, substations, transformers, power panels, switchboards, and load centers. Performs such installations and repair work on high voltage equipment as splicing, tapping, insulating wires; installing, checking and repairing switch gear and circuit breakers; trouble shooting, repairing, disconnecting, or de-energizing loaded circuits.
- Performs all electro-mechanical operations needed to remove, dismantle, disassemble, repair, and install or adjust defective electrical devices comprising the system or equipment. Performs required computations to estimate materials needed and power load requirements.
- Tests system or equipment prior to release for operation. Obtains required permits or approvals through supervisor.
- Reviews own work for completeness and quality workmanship. Completes required documentation and records.
- Other duties as assigned.
Tools and Equipment Use
- Tools and equipment common to the trade. Proficient in operating a wide variety of tools and instruments (including micrometers, calipers, multmeters and other gauges; hand tools; power tools; computers, oscilloscopes)

Education/Previous Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and two-year degree or certification in a technical trade equal to a journeyman’s level or equivalent training.
- Maintains technical competence in advancing technology via frequent training courses, vendor schools, seminars and industry associations and publications.
- PLC Training Certificate (or willingness to obtain with specified period).
- Forklift Certificate (or willingness to obtain with specified period).
- Must have completed at least 80% of apprenticeship training
- Must have at least 7 years of work related experience
- Read, write, and speak English effectively
