The position is located in Brookings, South Dakota with supporting various factories. The Machine Technician is responsible for being proactive on the preventative maintenance schedule to work toward the goal of no unplanned machine down time to meet the factory needs.
Hours:
- Monday – Thursday, 4:00pm-2:30am.
- Overtime opportunities and occasional on-call responsibilities for troubleshooting approximately one time a month.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on automated equipment on a scheduled basis.
- Current automated equipment includes metal fabrication, paint application and transfer, and electronic assembly equipment.
- Make emergency repairs to automated manufacturing equipment including electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Train machine operators and other maintenance personnel to perform maintenance tasks.
- Communicate effectively over the phone to repair equipment.
- Flexible hours to ensure full operation of equipment for all shifts.
- Evaluate and improve existing PM programs.
- Operate automated equipment.
- Use maintenance software tools to input information into work orders on the details of the work performed and the materials consumed by the repairs on equipment.
- Contribute to discussions regarding new equipment purchases.
- Provide feedback regarding the processing of new materials through manufacturing equipment.
- Maintain spare parts inventory. System driven orders and other inventory needed for support of equipment.
- Maintain maintenance records for assets in factories including procedures, parts, and labor.
- Make and implement suggestions for product and process improvement.
- Travel could be required for training on equipment when offered or needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned and as needed to meet customer expectations and to have equipment operating with no unplanned downtime.
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- Minimum two-year Associate degree in Electrical, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a similar technical field preferred. Applicants with two-year degrees and with manufacturing maintenance experience are encouraged to apply.
- Computer keyboard skills, experience with Microsoft office products. Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow work plan and prioritize work orders according to company plan. Escalate issues that keep the plan from being successful.
- Work effectively as a team member work with little supervision.
- Physical requirements:
- Ability to distinguish and identify wire colors.
- Be able to lift and carry heavy (up to 75 lbs.) and/or awkward items.
- Able to work with your hands; stand and/or sit for the full shift.
- Full range of motion (including but not limited to bending and lifting) required for the job.
- Work with your hands. Maintain steady hand-eye coordination.
- Reach in all directions and in potentially awkward positions.
- Ability to read fine print with or without corrective lenses.
- Be able to work with various manufacturing odors.
- Wear all proper protective equipment as required in work area in accordance with Daktronics Safety Policy and OSHA standards. Items may include the following: safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, electrostatic discharge wear, and others as determined necessary by Daktronics Risk and Safety Department. Pulmonary function tests for use of respirator may be required.
- Fluent in English, written and verbal.
- Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Motor vehicle record will be checked.
- Ability to meet all workplace safety requirements, which includes following safety protocols related to COVID-19.
