Position Summary

The CNC Programmer will operate and maintain CNC equipment. As a CNC Programmer, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting technical blueprints, inputting the design specifications, and adjusting the cutting paths while maintaining strict safety standards. You may also be required to perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot issues.

In this role, you will also be required to perform manual machining duties. The split between CNC and Manual will be about 70/30. Machinists will machine parts to dimension and tolerances specified on provided blueprint. Machinists work with heavy machinery (lathes, boring mills, planner mills, drill presses) from set up to operation.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

CNC Programmer Responsibilities:

  • Plans machining by reading work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, and specifications.
  • Programs CNC Machines by entering instructions, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches.
  • Sets-up CNC Machines by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers.
  • Loads feed mechanism.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces
  • Maintains specifications by observing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Documents thoroughly by completing production and quality logs.

Manual Machinist Responsibilities:

  • Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools, including VTLs (vertical turret lathes) applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, machine parts or specifications to determine type and dimensions of metal stock required.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on metal stock surfaces, using such measuring and marking devices as calibrated ruler, micrometer, caliper, and scriber.
  • Maintains and lubricates machine tools and equipment.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of previous work experience as a CNC Programmer and Operator.
  • 10+ years of experience as a Manual Machinist.
  • Basic math, geometry, and trigonometry skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret design blueprints.
  • Extensive experience with and proficiency of Mastercam and Solidworks
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and stick to a deadline.
