ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Internal Medicine is one of the largest and most diverse departments in the College of Medicine. The mission of the Department is to rank among the elite in the nation in the areas of education, research and patient care. The Department provides education and training for a diverse group of medical students, residents, fellows and allied health personnel from USF and throughout the world. The Departments research activities are numerous and involve both basic and clinical research activities in all subspecialties of Internal Medicine. Patient care occurs in our affiliated hospitals (Tampa General Hospital, Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute and the James A. Haley VA Hospital) as well as state-of-the-art ambulatory health care centers. The Department also provides healthcare support and services via contractual arrangements with many diverse organizations. The Departments faculty represent a group of dedicated physicians well-recognized as leaders in all three of our mission areas. The all source budget for the current fiscal year is in excess of $43 million dollars.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position serves as the Lung Transplant Nurse Practitioner in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. This position coordinates the management of adult Lung, Heart-Lung post-transplant patients, donors, Cystic Fibrosis patients, and Interstitial Lung Disease patients. Responsibility begins prior to transplant for all advanced lung disease patients and continues throughout the life of the transplanted Lung, Heart-Lung. Tasks include reviewing patient records; scheduling procedures; calling patients with laboratory and test results and medication changes; providing education to patients, family members and significant others regarding pre- and post-transplantation issues; participation in Cystic Fibrosis, Interstitial Lung Disease, and pre-/post-transplant clinic.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates all aspects of outpatient care for transplant recipients, donors, Cystic fibrosis, and Interstitial Lung Disease patients, including post-operative management, outpatient follow-up, scheduling of procedures, and discharge planning.
- Participates in coverage of the Advanced Lung Disease inpatient service, to include pre/post lung and heart-lung transplant, Cystic Fibrosis, and Interstitial Lung Disease patients.
- On-call responsibilities: coordination of retrieval of deceased donor organs for transplant and after-hours Lung and Heart-Lung transplant, Cystic Fibrosis, and Interstitial Lung Disease patient calls.
- Coordinates and develops professional education programs/seminars regarding Lung, Heart-Lung Transplantation, Cystic Fibrosis, and Interstitial Lung Disease for the staff and medical specialty units of USF at TGH.
- Provides outreach and education in outreach clinics to meet the needs of referring physicians, patient support groups and lay community throughout the regional Tampa Bay areas.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
- This position requires graduation from an accredited Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64.
PREFERRED:
- Experience with management of adult Lung, Heart-Lung post-transplant patients, donors, Cystic Fibrosis patients, and Interstitial Lung Disease patients.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
- This position may require rotating work schedule to include on-call.
