LOW VOLTAGE FIRE ALARM INSPECTOR

The Low Voltage Inspector is tasked with meeting and exceeding customer needs and requirements, inspecting buildings to locate hazardous conditions and fire code violations, and producing quality installation and service on schedule and within estimated hours.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred: Post-Secondary Education
Required: Nicet Level 1 Certified
Preferred: Verifiable Certifications
- OSHA 10 Certified
- Nicet Level 2 Certified or higher
- Inspector Boot Camp Certified
Experience
Required: 1 to 2 years relevant construction related experience or inspection of fire alarm systems.
Preferred: 3 to 5 years relevant construction related experience or inspection of fire alarm systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Relevant and current industry and technical knowledge concerning products, materials and equipment
- Basic knowledge of AD/DC circuitry, associated with low voltage systems.
- Troubleshooting: determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it; repairing equipment or systems using the needed tools.
- Time Management: managing one’s own time and the time of others. Reading Comprehension: understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
- Self-starter and team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences; ability to convey information clearly and concisely through spoken words and sentences.
- Ability to read, write, and understand information and ideas; ability to arrange tasks or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules; able to compute/calculate required mathematical equations.
- Programming: Proficient in the use of basic computer functions to facilitate the use of specialized programs related to the above listed systems.
- Able to stand for long periods of time (up to ten hours); able to lift and carry a twelve- foot ladder and able to perform work from a ladder; able to operate a power jack and fork lift and able to lift up to 70 pounds manually.
The Low Voltage Inspector is granted sufficient authority by the Service Manager to accomplish all of the duties and responsibilities that are established for this position, to include, but not limited to, the following:
- Establish and maintain excellent relationships with customers and their staff.
- Conduct inspections and acceptable testing of fire, security, voice data, nurse call and other protection systems. Inspect and test fire protection and/or fire detection systems to verify that such systems are installed in accordance with appropriate laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.
- Write detailed reports of the fire inspections performed, fire code violations observed, and corrective recommendations offered.
- Provide assistance in performing assigned tasks for fire life safety system services; Assists in responding to service calls (emergency and on-site).
- Provide needed assistance with troubleshooting techniques and performs minor repairs as directed; Assists and observes installing new fire life safety systems and wiring techniques.
- Troubleshoot electronics system circuits, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine the need for adjustment.
- Adjust and replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry and electronics components using hand tools.
- Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
- Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers and field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts.
- Maintaining a team-based work environment and strong relationships with fellow employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to work under the elements of a construction site.
