This role assists the Supply Chain Manager with analysis of freight pricing agreements, monitoring carrier performance, process improvements and other projects as required. Review transportation and logistics options to move international shipments. Daily management of 3PL transportation providers – including tendering loads, securing rate quotes and investigating (resolving) transportation issues. Frequent communications with Customer Service, Sales and Purchasing concerning on time delivery, freight quotes and transportation issues.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
· Conduct semi-annual RFQ’s for transportation service providers. Continually search for and screen dry van, pneumatic and flatbed carriers.
· Meet with current transportation service providers to reaffirm long-term relationships while working to eliminate cost in the supply chain.
· Track freight profits each month through our ERP system, reporting and compiling information on Freight Margins spreadsheet.
· Search for transloading sites and secure rail rates and truckload rates. Organize and document transloading procedures as it pertains to each location to ensure that all internal customers are informed of the activities and sequence of events that must happen to provide the best possible service to the customer.
· Work with Supply Chain Specialist to monitor rail car movements – including tracking transit times, days on hand at destination site and notating reasons for delay while in transit.
· Engage in continuous improvement initiatives and implement distribution network design improvements to meet current and future sales channel requirements
· Report and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) in a manner that is consistent across the company
· Manage transload operations from railroad covered hoppers to pneumatic trailers and final delivery to customer’s job site.
· Complete customs paperwork for import and export shipments
· File and track transportation claims
· Cross train to process purchase orders for vendors as needed
· Assist with physical warehouse inventory as needed
Knowledge and Skills
· Bachelor’s Degree preferred, with a plus for Logistics, Transportation or Supply Chain
· Experience in all modes of transportation (truckload, flatbed, pneumatic, LTL, railroad, ocean import & export) desired
· Intermediate user of Microsoft Office – prefer an advanced user for Excel
- 3-5 years management experience in a transportation environment
- Superior organizational and project management skills
· NMFC coding experience highly desirable
· Self-motivated individual with track record of internal drive
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
