FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt

Supervision Received/Exercised: Reports to Production Supervisor

Back up: Operator

Job Summary:
Ensure that Hearthside Foods meets and exceeds quality, efficiency, cleanliness and safety goals by working cooperatively with and assisting other members of the production team.

Job Duties and Functional Role

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Overall focus of this position is to ensure that Hearthside Foods meets and exceeds quality, efficiency, cleanliness and safety goals by working cooperatively with and assisting other members of the production team.

Perform repetitive duties while standing

Pack filled, sealed primary packages into secondary packaging per the packaging instructions provided

Stack filled cases for shipment per the instructions provided

Remove any defective primary or secondary packages and rework them

Apply pallet tags or placards per specification in the Bluebook or as instructed by the Machine

Operator

Stage product using the hand jack and inform Forklift Operator when pallets are complete.

Keep pace with the production rate of the line.

Communicate with Machine Operator on any off quality or questionable package.

Report any issue to Machine Operator or Production Supervisor

Safeguard the confidentiality of customer, company, vendor, and employee information.

Maintain a well-groomed, professional appearance appropriate for the position and the situation.

Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Visually inspect product and remove defective, damaged, or off quality materials from production line.

Pack product per specifications and place in finished cartons for sealing or other handling.

Stack product per specifications

Construct, mark, stage and deliver boxes or other secondary packaging for use on the line.

Stack materials on skids and slip sheets according to the Bluebook

Perform ongoing, in-process visual quality check of packaged product and containers to ensure that they are not damaged or defective.

Insure that product is properly marked and otherwise meets specifications laid out in the

Bluebook.

Remove product and containers failing to meet specifications laid out in the Bluebook.

Perform all other duties deemed necessary, or required by the Production Coordinator,

Production Supervisor and Plant Operations Manager.

Ability to maintain a positive and productive relationship with co-workers and others with whom the position may have contact.

Willingness to work as a team member and help out where needed to ensure maximum process efficiency.

Willingness to work overtime when asked.

Keep, all information pertaining to our operations (products, customers, production details, etc.) confidential.

If assigned as a dumper in D building or a stacker on line A2 line workers are responsible for proper use of SAP functions for issuing bulk and making finished tags.

Authority and Accountability

The Line Worker has the accountability for verifying the count and quality of the packages they are packing.

Required Competencies & Knowledge

Education Requirements:
Required – None

Preferred - High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience Requirements:

Required –None

Preferred - One or more years of experience working in Factory.

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements:

Receive verbal and written instructions

Basic Math Skills, Additions, Subtraction, Division, Multiplication

Ability to work well with a wide variety of people

Work Environment:

Fast pace production environment.

Work will be done in a non-climate controlled production area.

Physical Requirements:

Work performed exclusively while standing and frequent walking of distances from 5 to 15 feet.

Frequent lifting of lightweight materials (weights can vary from a few ounces to 10 lbs depending upon product) from mid-torso to mid torso with guided placement.

Frequent lifting of weights 5 – 30 pounds from mid torso to make guided placement on ground through mid-chest level.

Occasional light lifting (5-10 pounds) above chest level for short periods of time. Lifts require the ability to pivot torso approximately 60 degrees to load materials onto pallets.

Frequent reach and grasp movements to gather materials from a line which requiring a high degree of hand/eye coordination.

Frequent grasping requiring use of both arms to remove product from line and place on skids.

Frequent bending (knee) required to pick up empty skids, slip sheets, affix pallet tags and stack products onto pallets.

Frequent wrist movements (horizontal and vertical) for placement of product into containers.

Frequent pushing (placing products in containers, pushing boxes through sealers) of light weight material.

Frequent pulling (pulling skids to location, rolling hand jack with / without product to location)

Mental Requirements:

Gain general concept of safety requirements for equipment on production floor.

Measures of Performance:
The Line Worker of Hearthside Foods shall be considered to be performing in an acceptable manner when the following have occurred:

All packages packed in accordance to the Bluebook

All product stacked in accordance to the Bluebook

All quality defects are found before product is packed.

Employee maintains a positive attitude and production relationship with co-workers.

Employee works as a team member and helps out where ever needed.

Employee is willing to work overtime when asked.

Employee follows all safety precautions and regulations.

Safety Requirements
Hearthside’s number one priority is keeping our employees and visitors safe. Therefore all employees are required to:

Follow all current and future safety policies, at all times.

Participate in all safety training and pass written exams.

Wear Safety Glasses at all times while in the production area of the plant.

Participate in a daily exercise stretching program (production employees).

Report all accident/incidents immediately to the proper person.

Provide post-accident drug screen.

Wear hearing protection in required areas
