We are seeking a Life Enrichment Coordinator - Laurelhurst Day Center that will plan, organize, direct, and participate in a broad program of recreational services appropriate for the participants of Providence ElderPlace. This position may work evenings and weekend at ElderPlace Housing sites based upon the needs of residents at each site.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
- Plan a comprehensive program tailored to the needs and abilities of the geriatric participant, which promote optimum health, independence, and self-care
- Provide program enrichment through the use of available community resources
- Schedule and coordinate the assignments of activities aides; provides input on performance evaluations and disciplinary actions to center manager as requested
- Evaluate the geriatric participant's functional status in relation to participation in recreational activities
- Establish realistic goals and sets up a plan utilizing recreational therapy techniques
- Re-evaluate goal achievement on a regular basis
- Provide a variety of activities for each participant each day and directs geriatric participants throughout the day's events
- Identify needs and makes referrals to staff as appropriate to help ensure the individual needs of each geriatric participant are met
- Record initial and interim evaluation, makes appropriate notes on each geriatric participant's progress, and schedules geriatric participants for individualized attention as appropriate
- Cooperate with center staff to ensure input on the daily scheduling of activities
- Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team, and operates, manages within the confines of the approved budget
- Maintain the order and cleanliness of the activity areas and equipment
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
- High School Diploma -OR- GED
- Activity Coordinator Certification for candidates without a Bachelor's Degree
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification for Health Care Provides must be obtained within one (1) month of hire
- Experience in participant assessments and care planning
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
- Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy or Occupational Therapy
- Coursework/Training: Training on working with cognitively impaired adults, frail elderly, and/or adults with mental and emotional disabilities
- Experience leading therapeutic group activities, discussions, etc.
