SummaryUnder the direction of the Library Director, the Library & Classroom Support Assistant provides skilled paraprofessional library, classroom, and other academic support services to the students, faculty, and staff of The Seattle School. The position is housed in the library and provides support to the larger academic services division.
Essential FunctionsThe Library & Classroom Support Assistant is responsible to:
- Provide circulation services such as loaning, renewing, and checking-in library materials using CyberTools.
- Collect and re-shelve materials from book drops, study carrels, and carts, after checking them in or indicating in-library use in CyberTools.
- Provide assistance and training to library users in basic library skills including the use of public computers, library catalog, printers, copiers, and other devices.
- Scan and email, within copyright limitations, materials for remote library users.
- Mail library materials to low-residency students who live outside the Puget Sound area.
- In coordination with Facilities and Academic Services, check classrooms to ensure proper room setup and technology is in working condition. This may include reconfiguring tables/chairs, replacing classroom supplies, and assisting instructors with basic technical support.
- Upload class videos to Populi.
- Shelf-read to verify that materials are in the correct place and order. Shift portions of the library collection as needed.
- Provide occasional assistance to Academic Services, including data entry and planning and supporting a variety of student learning experiences such as internship fairs, academic forums, etc.
- Provide back-up front desk support as needed.
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment utilized in the library, referring to Facilities, Institutional Support, and Information Technology as needed for repair and/or replacement.
- Perform other library support services including maintaining the library and its equipment (i.e., stock paper & staples, empty 3-hole punch, flat surfaces, etc.) in a neat, clean, and orderly condition.
- Previous library experience is a plus but not required.
- College degree preferred; Associate’s degree and/or high school diploma with 1-2 years in library or clerical/office role acceptable.
- Ability to produce quality work, attention to detail, and reliable attendance required.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills required.
- Understands the balance of functioning in various roles at the same institution, complying with all necessary confidentiality and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with Google Suite, online library databases, and other web-based resources preferred.
- Demonstrated competence (or willingness to learn) in operating office machinery.
- Ability to work independently and as a creative and collaborative team member in a frequently changing environment.
- Familiarity and appreciation for the mission and values of The Seattle School.

Supervisory Responsibilities
The Library & Classroom Support Assistant has no supervisory responsibilities.
Working Conditions
Must be able to work on-campus, Monday through Thursday (flexible: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM preferred).
