This position is nonpartisan and requires the ability to work with neutrality in a politically charged environment.
The Legislative Research Commission provides staff support to the Kentucky General Assembly. The agency offers unique opportunities to people seeking fulfilling, challenging, and rewarding careers. Job Duties:
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Former Kentucky State Police Officer; or equivalent education or training in law enforcement, with six years as a law enforcement officer, head of security for a private entity, or state security/homeland security officer.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Education may be substituted for experience at the discretion of the supervisor/manager.

Job Duties:
- Monitor events and activities at the Capitol campus, coordinating with Kentucky State Police and ensuring high standards of security for legislators and constituents.
- Actively participate in Homeland Security coordination activities with other governmental entities in Frankfort and the surrounding community.
- Monitor and manage active threats and incidents with security implications, such as activist protests and employee terminations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to provide security or establish order at public meetings.
- Demonstrated knowledge of firearms or other security threats, and the ability to swiftly address and neutralize dangerous situations.
- Ability to conduct surveillance and inspection of legislative facilities and grounds.
- Occasional coordination with other members of senior management, assisting in investigations.
- Ability to demonstrate rapport with legislators, staff, and the public.
- Ability to work with discretion on matters concerning security, address imminent threats, and alert the Director to threats on the horizon.
- Ability to balance the need for security with LRC’s customer-service mission of providing an accessible and friendly environment for constituents.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability to understand and uphold the strict confidential nature of legislative work.
- Ability to uphold expectations of a nonpartisan staff member.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed.
