Job Description
    DutiesSummary

    The Civil Rights Division (Division) is a key component of the Department of Justice and fulfills a critical mission in upholding the civil and constitutional rights of all individuals, including some of the most vulnerable members of our society.

    This position is located in the Policy and Strategy Section (POL or Section) of the Civil Rights Division. The candidate selected for this position will serve as a Legislative and Policy Analyst.


    Responsibilities
    • Duties include but are not limited to the following:
    • Advises attorneys and managers on time sensitive matters regarding complex legal issues.
    • Monitors and evaluate program performance to brief attorneys and managers on the results of conducted analysis.
    • Assesses the effects of civil rights policies, programs, and activities to develop recommendations for attorneys and managers.
    • Designs and conduct research regarding civil rights policies, programs and activities for use in legislative, regulatory and policy proposals and conferences.
    • Prepares reports and briefing materials for speeches in reference to a variety of civil rights related issues.
    • Collaborates with internal staff to facilitate, develop and execute conferences and meetings with external public and private sector organizations on important civil rights issues.
    • Reviews legislation, regulations, and other policy documents to identity legal issues and synthesize views from multiple sources to support time sensitive policy recommendations

    QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:

    To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that included: 1) reviewing and assisting with preparing legislative policy and regulatory proposals in an organization; 2) assisting with data analysis related to civil rights legislation, programs and policies; and 3) drafting written summaries and analyses of civil rights laws and policies. (Must be reflected in resume.)

    To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service that included: 1) developing legislative policy and regulatory proposals that take account of the external interests of an organization; (2) conducting in-depth analyses of civil rights programs, policies, and regulations; (3) conducting research to provide written and oral analysis of civil rights laws and policies issues; and (4) generating recommendations and proposals based on data obtained.
