What you’ll achieve
As an IPLegal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing a full range of intellectual property legal support including supporting Dell’s patent litigation team and patent licensing and pre-litigation matters, as well as open source reviews, standards issues, patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio development, freedom-to-operate analysis, rendering opinions, managing outside counsel, drafting and negotiating licenses, development and research collaboration agreements, and due diligence support for business development and counselling client.
You will:
- Provide due diligence and technical support to Dell’s patent litigation team, including providing support for activities before the United States Patent Trial and Appeal Board (“PTAB”).
- Conduct due diligence supporting Dell’s patent licensing matters and engage in active negotiation of patent licenses.
- Regularly make presentations and interact with the business with regard to intellectual property legal matters including patents, open source and standards.
- Provide a full range of support functions related to open source software, including vetting proposals to use open source software and to contribute to and/or create open source projects, and helping to develop and enforce open source policies for the company.

Essential Requirements
- A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, admission to practice before the USPTO and licensed to practice in at least one state are required. An undergraduate or advanced degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of law firm or corporate law department experience is required, and a mix of both types of experience is preferred.
- A demonstrated background in the computer and software arts, including drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the computer and software arts, is required.
- Experience in the rendering of patentability and non-infringement opinions is required.
- Ability to articulate and communicate with and positively engage their clients is required. Must be able give well organized, thoughtful presentations to upper management.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience in patent litigation support, including activities before the United States Patent Trial and Appeal Board (“PTAB”).
- Experience in technology license drafting and negotiation is preferred.
- Experience in providing legal support for open source software and standards organizations is preferred.
- Experience in due diligence activities is preferred.
