Carpenter acquired Latrobe in 2012 to increase capacity to meet strong customer demand and to broaden the company’s product mix. Latrobe is part of Carpenter’s Specialty Alloys Operations Division.

TITLE OF POSITION: Lean Manufacturing Specialist—Level 4

LOCATION: Latrobe, PA

OVERVIEW: Work with Lean Leaders, Managers, and other stakeholders to support operations through the “Lean Journey”. Position will provide direct support that focuses on the implementation and enhancement of the Carpenter Operating Model to impact the development, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of efficient manufacturing processes and workflows.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Enhance, organize, implement, and maintain production process flow
• Recommend process improvements using a combination of Lean Manufacturing with a focus towards optimizing labor resources and systems, flow creation, 5S and waste reduction
• Directly impact the improvement of existing operations for increased quality, productivity, efficiency and cost savings
• Facilitate value stream mapping
• Recommend solutions based on the investigation of operational problems affecting production and reporting
• Provide manufacturing data to monitor, improve and measure processes to target outcomes- production control charts, reliability, process capability
• Identify ways to reduce production inefficiencies through recommendations-new processes, elimination of waste, machinery enhancements
• Work with other departments to determine estimated costs, run time, cost reduction, and close the feedback loop
• Assist with training staff on new development processes and technology
• Assist with the development and documentation of KPI’s and systems designed to sustain and drive continuous improvement using Carpenters Operating Model
• Organize meetings with other team members to facilitate growth
• Ensure a safe workplace and continually emphasize importance of safety standards.
• Adhere to lean manufacturing processes and emphasize continuous improvement

REQUIREMENTS:

• BA/BS degree in Engineering, Project Management or related field required
• 5+ years’ successful lean implementation experience with proven record of sustainable results
• Prior knowledge and practical experience in a manufacturing/industrial setting with a strong focus in Lean Manufacturing operations
• Experience driving continuous improvement by identifying and eliminating waste using applicable tools and analysis
• Experience with SAP BI reporting or/ and SQL language
• Appropriate technical knowledge to solve material applications
• Experience utilizing and analyzing data to follow processes and conduct problem-solving
• Ability to coordinate activities across multiple disciplines
• Strong communication skills—written, verbal and the ability to listen intently
• Ability and willingness to travel 25% to other locations within a specified region

PREFERRED:

• Prior knowledge/experience with the Toyota Production System is strongly preferred
• Extensive job-related experience with LEAN Operating Model Deployment
• Ability to creatively drive continuous improvement on their own initiative with guidance as necessary
• Advanced degree
• Ability to work in a matrix environment & communicate to all levels of the organization
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and aptitude
• Proactive and creative with the ability to be a hands-on change agent
• Self-motivated with the ability to “think on your feet” and a “can do” approach to work
• Strong analytical, mathematical, computer and basic business skills
• Ability to bring clarity and optimal solutions from abstract information
