Job Description

Summary:
Position Summary:
Designs and implements research programs and projects within the area of translational pancreatic cancer research for the development of disease-related diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. Leads and trains research assistants, research associates, residents and students. Collaborates with other research groups. Responsible for conducting and supervising all pancreatic cancer lab research activities and overseeing daily research projects and scholarly activities of the research lab. Actively write and publish scientific papers and apply for state, government, national and international grants for research funding.
Responsibilities:
Major Accountabilities:
1. In collaboration with the principal research investigator, conducts and manages research projects.
2. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research, and brings new expertise to the research program. Develops novel standard operating procedures.
3. Provide technical leadership and guidance to lower-level scientists and technicians. Guide residents in conducting scholarly research.
4. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the research investigator.
5. Attends and gives seminars.
6. Establishes new capabilities in the laboratory.
7. Assists in furthering the goals of the department.
8. Develops internal and external research collaborations and communicates effectively with other multidisciplinary research teams in advancing and conducting research projects.
9. Writes research grant proposals and creates budgets for research funding
10. Ensures on-going compliance with institutional review board policies.
11. Manages and coordinates collection, processing and inventory of various specimens connected to the experimental studies.
12. Details research activities in the lab book as outlined in the approved Standard Operating Prodecures.
13. Manages the timely production and maintenance of case report forms, consent forms, and other study
documents associated with the research study project.
14. Prepares written progress reports and other research study documents.
15. Participate in Biobank Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement activities
16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Formal Education and Job-Related Experience and Skills
This position requires a minimum formal education of a Master’s Degree in a relevant scientific field
(
biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology or related fields
)
with more than five years of job-related experience in academia or industry.
Preferred – A Ph.D degree with a minimum four years job-related experience.
License, Registration, Certification Requirements: None
Required Skills
Hard-working and self-motivated individual with excellent organizational ability, communication and computer skills, and a working knowledge of statistics and research methodology.
Experience in oncology research
Experience in developing assays that use genomics, proteomics and metabolomics analysis.
Experience in standard molecular biology/nucleic acid-based protocols, including DNA and RNA isolation and purification, molecular quantification, PCR, electrophoresis, cloning DNA, labeling, PCR, RT-PCR, Real Time PCR, ELISA, Western Blotting.
Experience in protein chemistry and protein purification techniques.
Experience in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell culture and cell manipulations.
Experience in flow cytometry.
Other information:
Desired skills
Expertise in next generation sequencing from sample library prep to working with bioinformaticians on NGS data analysis.
Experience in exosome biology (isolation, characterization and in-vitro functional studies)
