Functions as a technical specialist or supervisory role. Independently develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. May supervise engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity or serve as a technical specialist providing knowledge and expertise.
Assigned to projects for U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Support development and execution of microgrid projects from feasibility analysis through commissioning
- Create concept and detailed mechanical system designs for complex projects or programs; produces design drawings, specifications and design analysis documents
- Develop and execute mechanical system modeling to analyze microgrid characteristics in grid-connected and island-mode, inclusive of: (i) reliability, availability, maintainability (RAM) analysis
- Provide key inputs for and perform life-cycle cost analysis: (i) energy production from distributed energy resource (DER) technologies, and (ii) cost, operation and maintenance inputs for major equipment based on input from technology vendors, (iii) utility rate analysis
- Lead writing programming documentation throughout microgrid execution, inclusive of: DD1391 documentation, design charrettes, programming workshops, value-engineering meetings, and decision briefs
- Brief client stakeholders on technical aspects of microgrids throughout project development and execution
- Lead interconnection with utilities: (i) Develop application, (ii) Perform interconnection analysis and studies, (iii) Lead technical discussion with utility companies throughout the interconnection process
- Coordinate with a BIM team for drawing production; redline documents within Bluebeam, direct 3D model fly-throughs
- Manages assigned budgets, schedules and quality requirements. Establishes work plan for projects.
- Collaborate with upwards of 100 team/client stakeholders (including high-ranking military officials) on conceptual designs, design reviews, etc.
- Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on complex projects
- Provides hands-on mentorship to discipline and interdisciplinary team members
- Performance of field work, both internationally and domestically, and write assessment reports
- Provide support to business development and pursuit activities
- As a subject matter expert, has additional expertise in a technical area, participates in professional societies by presenting papers, participates on technical committees, and assists with code/standard authoring. Is externally recognized in industry as an expert which enhances the Company brand
- Mission critical mechanical system design
- Microgrids, including primary/backup diesel and natural gas generators, UPS mech support systems, hydrogen systems, LPG, alternative energy systems
- Energy efficiency audits, modeling and energy modeling / audit certifications
- Multi-facility mechanical systems including process facilities, SCIF spaces, office buildings, warehouses, airfields, bed-down facilities, etc.
- Design-bid-build and Design-Build contract types
Other qualifications include:
- Specialize in mechanical systems engineering for a minimum of four years, with a focus on delegation and mentoring
- Experience working for an entity of the Federal government; familiarity with the applicable unified facilities guide specifications and criteria, ability to use SpecsIntact or Dr. Checks
- Active US security clearance, or ability to obtain one
