Under supervision, the Lead Landscape Building Maintenance Worker will perform semi-skilled to unskilled work in all areas of turf maintenance. Perform various journey level tasks including the operation of heavy grounds equipment, landscape construction associated with turf management and other landscaping activities. Direct, coordinate, schedule and inspect grounds and turf field maintenance. As Lead, coordinate and schedule work orders and work to be performed by Equipment Operators and Building Maintenance Workers; Direct, coordinate and schedule alterations, repairs and renovation projects and carry-out landscape and hardscape planting and plans and irrigation systems and specifications. Interpret, organize and direct the completion of tasks requested through work orders and service referral calls. Ensure timely response to campus trouble calls.
Operate “ride on” and “walk behind" mowers and tractors with aerating and de-thatching attachments. Perform turf care aerification and turf thatching removal. Operate loader, tractor, dump trucks and pick up trucks to remove and transport thatch debris. Operate turf sweepers to perform core removal during aerating, and thatch removal during de-thatching, and clipping removal after mowing. Follow established specifications to project a rich well manicured turf. Perform preventive and routine maintenance on related equipment. Assist other landscape work crews with routine grounds and landscape maintenance tasks as necessary.
- Must be able to work overtime or weekends occasionally.
Demonstrated experience in turf and artificial field maintenance. Ability to work under minimal supervision. Experience with warm season turf preferred.
Demonstrated skill and ability to direct others, organize and coordinate landscape maintenance. Proven ability to coordinate work schedules between the crew and the customer's facilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of commonly used Southern California plant materials, turf varieties, pests, diseases, and their cultural requirements.
Proven ability to perform journey level tasks including operation of heavy grounds equipment, landscape construction and associated sport and turf management.
Demonstrated experience performing routine grounds and landscape maintenance to include: weeding, raking, hauling shrubs, pruning, and thatching debris removal.
Demonstrated experience maintaining complex irrigation systems. Skilled at programming, repairing, installing, testing and adjusting irrigation systems and sprinkler heads.
Skill in operating trenchers, tractors, roto-tillers, and other commonly used large pieces of power-driven grounds and sport field equipment.
Demonstrated knowledge and skill to operate commonly used grounds equipment and tools. Proven ability to safely operate "ride on" mowers, tractors, turf sweepers, dump trucks, and associated attachments/equipment for turf mowing, aerating, and de-thatching.
Skill to establish and implement short and medium range development plans.
Proven ability to operate personal computer and other electronic devices to communicate and relay details regarding work orders, maintenance and equipment requirements.
Strong problem solving skills and sound judgment. Proven ability to be flexible and constantly adjust to changing priorities.
Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with various levels of campus administration. Proven ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically.
Pre-employment DOJ/FBI background checks and clearances required.
Pre-employment DMV background check and clearance required. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
