Job Description
Overview: The Lead CT Technologist position is responsible for producing computerized tomographic radiographs while providing leadership to staff. In addition to providing basic patient care, maintaining equipment, transporting patients and creating and maintaining documentation, this position serves as a procedure specialist and leads a team of technologists in CT.
This position's work location is on-site only. Responsibilities: Leadership
  • Provide team leadership to staff in the department.
  • Act at a resource and first point of escalation resource to address the needs of staff, patients and families.
  • Serve as a procedure specialist and subject matter expert on modality and its process and procedures.
  • Acts as the day-to-day lead for operations of the department and assures efficient operation of workflow of the department.
  • Responsible for maintaining the work schedule, worflow and staff schedules for the department.
  • Participates in the hiring process, performance evaluation and handling of issues, and in problem solving for the team.

Patient Care

  • Obtains patient history.
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedures and/or treatment to be performed as well as risk factors and prevention.
  • Positions patients appropriately for the applicable radiographic procedure.
  • Performs radiographic procedures and analysis according to departmental guidelines.
  • Develops and evaluates radiographic results for technical quality, such as density, contrast, definition and distortion.
  • Applies learned methodologies with independent judgment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs prescribed procedures in accordance with established policies.
  • Maintains infection prevention standards.
  • Explains standard procedures and answers patients questions.
  • Prepares, cleans, adjusts, inspects and maintains equipment.
  • Produces quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as needed or required.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other medical professionals.

Modality Specific

  • Operate head or body scanners to create a computer generated cross-sectional image of patient's internal organs and tissues for diagnosis of medical issues.
  • Produces computerized tomographic scanner radiographs of specific areas.
  • Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
  • May perform obstetric and gynecological scans, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, and radiation therapy localization.

Quality

  • Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements, demonstrating ability to troubleshoot and notifying appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department and monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to ensure non-interruption of service.
  • Ensures that the examination results meet the facility standards for Quality Assurance before findings are released for interpretation.
  • Provides oversight for the assessment of examinations performed within the facility for technical and image quality, and accuracy.
  • Documents any incidental findings that might impact patient safety or patient care and provide that information to the interpreting physician.
  • Exercises responsibility for the maintenance and accuracy of facility reports, database records and logs.
  • Participates in required training for compliance related activities (HIPAA, Compliance, Patient Safety, TJC, other regulatory bodies.
  • Participates and contributes to quality improvement processes and unit meetings/activities.
  • Participates in compliance related activities (HIPAA, Compliance, Patient Safety, TJC, other regulatory bodies).

Education

  • Keeps updated on the knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and imaging equipment.
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed as well as risk factors and prevention.
  • Participates in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidenced based practice and research.
  • Participates in the mentoring and education of technologists and students.
  • Works with peers and other health care providers. Participates in ongoing in-service and educational seminars.
  • Assists with the orientation and training of new staff.

Compliance/Safety

  • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.
  • If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.
  • Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
Qualifications: Education Graduate of an accredited School of Computed Tomography - Required
Applied Associates of Science degree in Radiological Technology - Required
Bachelor's of Radiology Science or related science or healthcare education - Preferred
Certificates and Licensure
Current registry Radiology Technologist and CT - Required
MRTBE CT - Required
BLS (American Heart Assoc.)- Required

Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
Experience
Minimum 5 years' experience in imaging - Required
Minimum 3 years' experience in computed tomography experience in a hospital setting - Preferred
Minimum 1 year experience in a team lead or supervisory role - Required (3 years experience - Preferred)
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
