The ECHO lab is located in the Heart Hospital building at Sanford USD Medical Center Campus.

Join our Adult and pediatric team where you will have the opportunities to learn from innovative physician teams, utilize best practices in the industry, and state of the art equipment. Broaden your skill set and knowledge by performing TTE, TEE, stress and dobutamine echo, Watchman, TAVR, Mitral Clip, 3D images and Strain. You will assist in and have a partnership in the Cardiac Cath lab, EP lab, PET/CT, and Stress lab. The Cardiac Sonographer will perform bubble studies and are able to individualize care by administering contrast agents for better image quality. We utilize Philips EPIC 7’s and CX50’s and IE 33's. You will manage day to day workflow for a busy lab of around 30 sonographers, create and manage schedules. Help prepare for monthly echo conference and staff meetings. Perform QA/QI. You would apply/reapply and be the ICAEL technical director and be responsible for all of the aspects of accreditation. You would help onboard and train students and new sonographers. The lead sonographer needs to communicate effectively, be fair and consistent, flexible, have good time management skills and be able to multitask.

Job Summary

Performs echocardiography tests/procedures in accordance with the American Society of Echocardiography standards. Responsible for day-to-day point of contact and workflow. Provides work direction to ensure daily responsibilities of cardiac sonographers are properly performed. Provides leadership to ensure staff perform their job duties by adhering to protocols and practices in order to have consistency and safety in the delivery of care to patients. Assists, plans, implement, evaluate, and document delivery of patient care. Prepares patients for exams by explaining procedures, transferring patients to ultrasound table, applying gel, and positioning patients properly. Provide sonogram and oral and/or written summary of technical summary of technical findings to interpreting physician for use in medical diagnosis. Performs routine cardiac ultrasound procedures in a clinic, hospital, and mobile sites depending on location. Provides professional and clinical expertise to staff.

Helps maintain current policies, protocols, and procedures along with initiating and coordinating quality assurance. Leads or assists in acquiring or maintaining the accreditation processes and requirements. Acts as a professional and technical resource for staff.

When applicable, operates ultrasound equipment to produce and record images of the motion, shape, and composition of blood, organs, tissues, or bodily masses, such as fluid accumulations. Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA).

Supervise or train student and cardiac sonographers as needed. Monitors ultrasound equipment and coordinates repairs when necessary. Works in partnership with other healthcare professionals. Thoroughly understands the operation of the ultrasound machine and utilizes new sonographer technologies.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited two-year Cardiac Ultrasound Program or a minimum of one year equivalent work experience or an allied health certificate/diploma preferred.

Minimum of three years of cardiac sonography experience is preferred.

Credentialed with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is required.

For employees who provide outreach mobile services, maintenance of a valid driver’s license and good driving record is required. This may include passenger on flights and occasional overnight stays at assigned sites. Employees are held to the Sanford category driver's license policy and medical guidelines when applicable for job duties.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is required.
