Teams across Facebook are dedicated to preventing real world harm and countering threats, often working with governments around the world and responding to over 200,000 requests from law enforcement a year. Our Strategic Initiatives team, which coordinates efforts across our law enforcement-related programs, is looking for a Law Enforcement Signal Intelligence Specialist to identify insights from this unique data set and drive strategy to enable the company to anticipate and leverage emerging trends.The position will help us to gain a deeper understanding of how bad actors use Facebook, analyze current safety trends, and develop solutions to detect and mitigate risk. This role must partner closely with internal teams and identify abstract signals that represent real world threats. You will enjoy working with one of the strongest data sets in the world and cutting edge technology. You will see your insights being used to protect people. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and experience conducting various forms of data analysis on large networks of nefarious actors as well as experience in deriving strategic-level insights from quantitative datasets.This role is highly cross-functional and will be expected to work with teams across the company to identify key trends in the law enforcement space that can make the platform safer.
  • Provide technical and thought leadership on designing, prototyping, implementing and automating complex analyses
  • Use existing insights, and develop an agenda to unearth new ones, to drive engagement with law enforcement or other strategies to prevent or mitigate real word harm
  • Support the development of pipelines and data infrastructure to support the creation of dashboards
  • Create analytic notebooks using Python and other tools to empower other analysts with advanced analytics capabilities
  • Use existing data to identify large networks of nefarious actors and activity
  • Develop quantitative metrics to help surface insights from structured datasets
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify new opportunities requiring the use of modern analytical and modeling techniques
  • Plan and conduct end-to-end analyses, including gathering requirements and processing and modeling data, and preparing leadership communications on emerging threats of real-world violence
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Policy and Operations teams to solve problems and identify trends and opportunities
  • Influence cross-functional teams through presentation of data-based recommendations
  • Engage with counterparts around Facebook and work together to spot threat patterns
  • Regularly provide well-researched and thorough analysis on emerging trends to executive-level stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain a network of information sources that will provide compelling insights and foresight into emerging news-worthy developments
  • Collaborate with an internal staff of project managers and analysts to conceptualize and produce impactful, data-driven, and compelling reports

  • 5+ years experience researching, investigating, and analyzing trends related to various online harms
  • Experience in threat investigation work in a major government or technology company
  • Extensive experience in developing and delivering communications to analytic counterparts, technical audiences, senior leaders, and policymakers
  • Understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning methods
  • Experience building partnerships with technical and non-technical counterparts across large organizations in order to solve difficult problems
