Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Garden Designer/Landscape Architect works directly with the Studio Lead and Senior Garden Designer in the production of conceptual master plans and design development drawings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Function:

Production

1. Survey properties to obtain and document existing site conditions through photographic documentation, site measurements, topographical survey and plant inventory.

2. Obtain information concerning easements, codes and regulations.

3. Compile base sheet information including photographic analysis, drainage analysis, and site analysis.

4. Draft base sheets and prepare survey information for presentation.

5. Produce conceptual master plans, working closely during establishing program and intent, developing design concepts, client review and acceptance

6. Support Senior Garden Designer and Department Director in the preparation of conceptual master plans.

7. Prepare presentation drawings.

8. Support Senior Garden Designer/ Landscape Architect in client meetings through documentation, clarification of survey information and clarification of technical information.

9. Preparation of design development packages and support to Senior Garden Designer/ Landscape Architect during the design development.

  • Create preliminary drawings for projects including site plan, preliminary layout and drainage plans and preliminary details exploring material options
  • Prepare take-offs and budgets/estimate for projects including preliminary budgets for planting, and preliminary construction budgets with range based on high and low end materials and construction methods
  • Prepare Design Developments drawings
  • Hard-line projects
  • Research product and material availability and costs
  • Analyze possible product selections and construction techniques
  • Work through details to insure the best quality construction for individual project
  • Work with Project Managers to create project estimates.

10. Contract Documentation

  • Determine all drawings needed to complete construction and ensure design intent
  • Prepare package of all drawings needed to complete construction for project including layout, grading/drainage, planting plans, details, obtain irrigation drawings from subcontractor as needed, and obtain lighting drawings from subcontractor as needed.
  • Update and incorporate plans submitted by architects and engineers.
  • Review plans with city officials and home owners’ associations if applicable for compliance with city and HOA codes.
  • Coordinate all consultants including irrigation, lighting, engineers and other consultants
  • Coordinate with owner’s consultants including architects, interior designers, engineers, etc.
  • Control construction documents for projects
  • Prepare bid package using approved bidders list
  • Present bid package to bidders and answer bidders’ questions
  • Present final bid to Department Director and/or Senior Landscape Architect for approval
  • Schedule and present project at pre-construction meeting with Site Coordinator and Landscape General Contractor.

11. Post Construction (Primary Role)

  • Archive all pertinent drawings in an orderly and logical manner allowing a person with no knowledge of the project to quickly access accurate information.

12. Project Management

  • Act as quality control for design intent when questions arise in the field.
  • Prepare all necessary drawings for clarification notices and change orders (as appropriate for scope and type of project).
  • Update drawings as necessary throughout project.
  • Provide updated drawings of project to site contractor.
  • Maintain current set of drawings in accessible location in the office.
  • On-site inspections to review progress and compliance with construction documents and maintain integrity of design intent.

14. Required to understand the flow of Standard Operating Procedures and utilize all technology tools and system platforms required for the role.

15. Responsible to work safely, assist in ensuring safe working conditions exist and report unsafe conditions to manager.

16. Responsible for Lambert’s process efficiencies, improvements and quality of work.

17. Safeguard Company assets and communication devices.

18. Demonstrate commitment to productivity process improvements, as well as advancements of new technology, applications and tools.

19. Perform the scope of one’s role and responsibilities in accordance with Lambert’s Core Values.

Client Services

1. Assist team in maintaining on-going relationships with all contacts and clients to ensure satisfaction and promote additional sales.
2. Communicate effectively with customers to ensure anticipated production timelines are met.

3. Document information from customer meetings to ensure program elements, design requirements, and deadline requirements are accurately recorded and met.

Professional Development and Community Public Relations

1. Continue professional / technical education and participate in company wide training when appropriate.

2. Review technical publications and articles to stay abreast of technical developments in the horticultural / landscape service industry.

3. Membership in professional trade organizations and the accepting of leadership roles in such groups.

4. Obtain and maintain required certification and licensing in industry appropriate organizations, i.e. TNLA,NALP, ASLA, TDA, TNRCC, etc.

5. Assist in recruitment of employees within the design levels

6. Prepare necessary documentation for archives and awards presentations.

7. Plan and support public relations policies, company’s image and relations with clients, prospective clients, employees, industry organizations and the general public.

Administrative

1. Prioritize workload.

2. Comply with all company policies and procedures, as well as timely completion of all necessary documentation and administrative procedures including: payroll information and other required paperwork.

3. Acquaint new team members and employees with team policies and procedures.

4. Promote team concept and the Company’s Quality Management System with all employees.

5. Conduct real time accurate time keeping at level required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Sketchup: 1 year (Preferred)
  • AutoCAD: 1 year (Preferred)
