Job Description
Position Summary
Works under direct supervision to perform physical labor in support of skilled tasks and participates in the learning of such skills in the Roads, Bridges, & Engineering Department.
Pay Grade: 41H Minimum Qualifications
100.00% - 1.Three (3) years of experience as a laborer assisting in the functions of a skilled area; and
2. Tenth (10) grade education.
3. Experience in concrete construction, use of hand tools and related power tools preferred.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Builds erects and sets to grade metal and wooden forms for concrete placement.
2. Pours finishes and cures concrete using mechanical, as well as hand tools.
3. Builds lines and finishes to grade brick junction boxes, drop inlet boxes, and drainage manholes.
4. Cleans and maintains tools, equipment and materials used in the construction and repair of drainage structures.
5. Drives two and one half (2 1/2) ton crew truck, two (2) ton dump truck and other utility vehicles.
6. Builds, climbs, and works on OSHA approved scaffolding.
7. Assists Foreman in the laying out of control lines and grades for structures.
8. Assists Foreman in supervising inmate laborers.
9. Performs housekeeping tasks that are necessary to maintain a clean and safe work area.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KSAs and Others - 1. Ability to perform all types of work related to concrete, such as: building forms, tying steel, setting grades, finishing concrete, and use of tools associated with this type of work.
2. Ability to make general mathematical computations necessary in the construction of drainage structures, headwalls, abutments and related works.
3. Ability to read and record distance with carpenter rule or tape.
4. Knowledge of and the ability to use hand tools, related power tools, and air tools.
5. Ability to read and understand written instructions. Physical Requirements
1. Must be able to consistently lift seventy-five (75) to ninety (90) lbs.
2. Must be able to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Special Requirements
1. Must possess a valid Tennessee commercial drivers license with a "Class B" endorsement or secure one prior to end of new employee probation.
2. Must pass a physical examination.
3. Must submit to and pass drug and alcohol screening. Disclaimer
