Under the direction of the Blood Center Operations Manager, the Laboratory Technician provides general support to laboratory staff in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This individual possesses a strong work ethic, is dedicated to safe and clean laboratory practices, is adept with testing procedures, and is committed to routine equipment maintenance that ensures secure packing and shipping of blood products. The individual is courteous, conscientious, and an efficient worker who will help STS build trusting customer relationships and deliver an unprecedented level of service quality.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Contributes to STS’ mission via professionalism in customer service and accuracy of work. The employee must be courteous, conscientious, and professional when interacting with donors, vendors, and hospital clients
  • Promotes strong teamwork and good communication
  • Follows standard operating procedures and abides by current good manufacturing practices (cGMP)
  • Possesses a fundamental understanding of laboratory practices and protocols
  • Performs routine laboratory tests and assists in sample processing
  • Troubleshoots assays and testing processes as needed
  • Performs data entry and is responsible for accurate record-keeping records observations and measurements and reports results
  • Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining workspace and equipment
  • Assists with the receipt and inspection of raw materials
  • Assists with ordering and stocking of materials and supplies
  • Responsible for labeling, storage, packing, and shipping of blood products
  • Ensures accurate and complete manufacturing records
  • Adheres to safety guidelines to assure compliance with regulatory agencies
  • Participates in mandatory training, retraining, staff meetings, and continuing education
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education, Skills & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working in a lab environment preferred
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work activities
  • Possesses basic computer skills
  • Demonstrates dependability, punctuality, flexibility, and cooperation
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
  • Meticulous attention to detail

Physical Requirements
Required to regularly stand, use hands, reach with arm, talk, and hear. Frequently required to sit, stoop, crouch, and kneel. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Requirements
Biosafety level 2 (BSL2) laboratory with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Functions are regularly performed inside and outside with the potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as inclement weather.

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
