Job Description

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Laboratory Manager and Supervisor, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparing, extracting, and plating samples for various assays including but not limited to nucleic acid extraction and PCR. The Laboratory Technician also provides a variety of clerical, physical and quality assurance functions involving the pre-analytical and analytical workflow. This will include tasks associated with specimen processing, specimen storage, inventory, validation, equipment and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Adhering to the laboratory's procedures and and quality control policies
  • Document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations
  • Perform instrument daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance
  • Maintain instrument maintenance and error logs
  • Maintain productivity appropriate to the workload volume
  • Identify problems affecting workflow performance
  • Troubleshoots issues and notifies appropriate technical staff
  • Demonstrates initiative in improving workflow efficiency and productivity
  • Upkeep of inventory for supplies, consumables, and reagents
  • Record and monitor temperatures for equipment such as incubators and cold storage units
  • Assist in documentation and maintenance of standard operating procedures
  • Document any and all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's standard operating procedures
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area
  • Maintains open communication with co-workers and management in all aspects of work-related tasks
  • Disposal of biohazardous and, chemical waste

Duties and responsibilities are subject to change based on business needs.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions

  • Ability to work in physically demanding and high-stress environment
  • Ability to communicate professionally across inter and intra departments
  • Exposure to hazardous materials including body fluids, communicable diseases, and chemicals
  • Flexibility in scheduling per business needs
  • Must be proficient with computer and keyboard
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Requires light to moderate work with occasional lifting and carrying of at least 25 pounds (50 lbs. max.)
  • Requires prolonged standing, frequent sitting, bending, reaching, stooping, normal range of hearing, manual dexterity sufficient to operate instrumentation, printers, fax, telephone, and/or other equipment in the office

Schedule

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift (7 AM)
  • Evening shift (3 PM)
  • Night Shift (11 PM)
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability (As needed)

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sciences (Required)

Experience

  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience in clinical lab setting (Molecular experience strongly preferred)

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
