Job Title Lab Stockroom Manager - Chemistry

Essential Functions

The University of Nebraska at Omaha is in search of a Laboratory Stockroom Manager within the Chemistry Department to begin as soon as possible.
This position will support operations in two chemistry stockrooms in collaboration with another Lab Stockroom Manager. Requires knowledge of chemical and laboratory safety, storage & chemical compatibility, Chemistry Department class and laboratory operations, as well as managerial tasks associated with hiring and training of new student workers, managing multiple workers (usually 6 or more per semester) and developing work schedules, among others. Responsible for ordering and maintaining stock of chemicals and inventory of chemicals. Establish standard operating procedures consistent with relevant regulations. Responsible for lab set up and preparation. Maintain and clean laboratory and equipment, service instruments, and maintain the eye wash and shower stations. Frequent communication with faculty, staff & students regarding individual and laboratory needs, supervising and training other stockroom staff.



Work Schedule 40 hours a week, normally from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, may be scheduled for evening and weekend times.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, chemical technology or closely related field with at least a minor in chemistry.



Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in techniques of quantitative analysis, organic chemistry and biochemistry desired. Prefer to have at least one year experience in training or supervision of others.



Physical Demands

Work environment includes two main chemical stockrooms, satellite chemical storage rooms, cold storage and undergraduate laboratory rooms. Irregular, infrequent exposure to volatile organics, gases, and corrosive, caustic or oxidizing inorganics is anticipated, so multiple chemical sensitivity is problematic. Weekly transfer of cryogenic coolant vessels weighing up to 60 pounds from floor to cart 5 inches off floor required. Regular lifting of shipping containers weighing up to 30 pounds.
Everyday movement of chemical containers (5 mL to 20L). Frequent movement of high pressure gaseous cylinders.

Chemistry Stockroom – Laboratory type setting with chemical storage shelves and containers.
