This position will operate out of our Rockville, MD office. Due to the nature of this position, much of the work will be performed onsite.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Assist in the development and qualification of new immunological assays including; but not limited to, the following: Blood and mucosal sample processing, Multicolor-Flow Cytometry based assays, cytokines and other soluble biomarkers Multiplexing assays (Luminex, MSD platforms), ELISA, ELISpot, and Neutralization Assays, among others.
  • Responsible for the isolation of serum, plasma and PBMCs from human and animal blood or mucosal samples.
  • Routine performance of existing assays according to established procedures.
  • Assist with daily scientific duties in the laboratory in order to meet commercial and government contract obligations in a timely manner. Lab activities may involve interaction with other functions and departments.
  • Assist the ABL Kit project lead to produce, test, ship and maintain inventory for the ELISA Kit catalog. Perform tasks such that ABL reliably delivers quality products in a timely manner. The research specialist should carry out work using good documentation practices (GDP).
  • Molecular virology activities: completing contract requirements, i.e. animal screening, TRIM5 genotyping, SIV RNA/ DNA quantification. Similar tools may also be applied to clinical studies as well. The Research Specialist will be trained and will be expected to know how to perform several molecular assays including but not limited to the following: droplet digital PCR, real-time PCR, RT-PCR, genotyping, and new molecular assay developments. Provide precise and reproducible data for all assays performed in the lab.
  • Responsible for organizing and ensuring efficient daily operation of the laboratory including: placing orders, stocking laboratory with necessary reagents and other materials used for experiments and inventory of reagents and samples, and helping maintain inventories.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • BS degree with minimum 1-3 years of experience or MS degree with 0-2 year of experience. Background in immunology, virology, or related discipline is preferred. Ability to work as a strong contributor in a team environment is a must.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, dependable, high integrity and sense of accountability, self-disciplined, and self–motivated.
  • Must possess outstanding communication skills (written/verbal) as well as excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to summarize experiment observations and data and help generate quality, detailed reports for internal and external communications.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast- paced work environment.
  • Strong computer/ software skills including MS Office Suite programs, Softmax, BD FACs Diva. Experience with FlowJo and Laboratory Information Management Systems a plus.
  • Proficiency with immune assays including multi-color flow cytometry studies, ELISPOT, cytotoxicity assays, proliferation assays, ELISA, soluble biomarkers multiplexing platforms (Luminex, MSD, Aushon, etc.), viral neutralization studies. Knowledge of mammalian cell culture and molecular biology tools is preferred.
